the reason I ask is because after installing JACK, and the open source
command line version of the Jacktrip app on a computer, it is simple for
that computer to connect to a managed server on the Jacktrip website.
After starting a managed server on the Jacktrip website, in order for a
computer running JACK audio, as well as the open source command line
version of the Jacktrip app, that computer would first start JACK, then
in the terminal type:
jacktrip -C <ip address of server> <enter>
The uppercase C indicates connection to a hub server vs. the lower case
-c which is for peer-to-peer connections. The ip address of the server
will be found in the upper right corner of the managed server after it
has been started and is "Ready".
The unmanaged server is really just a reference to the Jacktrip server
you would set up on your laptop. The Jacktrip unmanaged server allows
those with Virtual Studio devices to connect to your laptop server via
the unmanaged server on the Jacktrip website. Your laptop server would
need to have the resources to support those who are connecting to it.
Maybe you already know all of this, but I am thinking out loud here and
hope it helps in some way.
