I'm having trouble with garbled audio with jacktrip, hitting a remote server running loopback mode. The audio sounds fine locally (when I connect system:capture_1 to system:playback_1), but garbled when going through the the jacktrip loopback. I've attached a recording.

Any ideas what's wrong?

My setup:
using jacktrip compiled from main branch.

starting the remote jackd with:
jackd -d dummy -p 64 -C 1 -P 1

remote jacktrip:
jacktrip -s -n 1 --nojackportsconnect -l -z

local jackd, using qjacktl, but the only things I changed was frames/period = 64 and periods/buffer = 3. Using a good USB soundcard and mic (separate though).

local client:
jacktrip -c <remote IP> -n 1 -z

You want to run hub mode, jacktrip -S and -C.

-p64 is going to be challenging over any Internet connection. Try bumping to -p128 or -p256 and add -q20 to both sides. Assuming that works ok, you can then try lowering the numbers until you find the lowest values that still sounds acceptable.

I'm not sure of the locations trying to connect, but our ensemble has
had as many as 5 locations in Northern and Southern California
connecting at -p64 in jackd and -p4 in the jacktrip hub server.

This was Julius' solution and he can give a more technical explanation,
but it worked well for us.

Is the noise I'm hearing packet loss, or some other type of network problem?

here is an article from someone who used iPerf to diagnose packet loss
and other network problems.

I don't have any network problems, at least none I can see.
