A few notes from Thursdays Club meeting.

First no one has come forward to lead the club as President. I will help get the ball rolling for the first couple of weeks but I will not be able to continue as President, my job simply does not allow me to make as many rides as I would like and it is not in the club’s best interest to have an absentee president, so we will have to revisit this.

Second we are starting up the weekday rides this Tuesday at 5:30.

Pay attention to this next part!

We are moving the A/B rides back to Bicycle City on Tuesdays, and will keep the Thursday rides at Trinity.

The C rides will stay at Trinity both Tuesdays and Thursday.

If you are a B rider and show up at Trinity be prepared to do a C paced ride!!!
Do not go over there and hijack that ride! The C group is a place for people to come and ride who are either new to group riding, or simply have no interest in riding fast.

If you are riding over there expect to ride at a 15-16 mph average.

If you are averaging 17+ YOU NEED TO BE IN THE B GROUP.

We will be reinstating the monthly Time trial.
We will need some volunteers so that work is not always falling to the same people.
It is a simple job, only requires 2-3 people and it doesn’t take but an hour.

Speaking of volunteers, we need to get the routes marked. Many of you do not know the routes, so this is a great way to learn them. We will provide to with a map, stencil and paint.
Most of the routes will still have the painted marking visible so it is easy to remark them.
It takes about two hours to mark one route, so if we split up the routes we won’t have one person putting in 6-8 hours to get them done.

Let’s have a brief 2-minute meeting before the rides to go over the route, pace, safety, or address anything issues that we may have on the ride such as sections of gravel etc.

Lastly we are having some server issues with the website so you are not currently able to renew your membership online. I will have membership forms at Tuesdays ride and will leave some at Bicycle City.
Please bring a check or cash on Tuesday so you are not riding without the insurance.

It has been brought to my attention that many of you did not know that there are Club dues.
I’m not sure how this is possible because I feel like I have beaten this to death in the past with unfortunately only moderate success, but since we are about to start a new season let me go over why there are club dues, and what the benefits to belonging to the club are

so here we go……

First the Club gives us an opportunity to get together, ride, socialize, learn and have fun.

Membership helps to keep you informed on what is going on in the cycling community,
legislation, upcoming rides and events.

Club membership gets you a 10% discount at both Bicycle City and Hub City bike shops.

I know just about all of us spend a couple hundred dollars a year so you’ll get you’re $20 bucks back right there.

So what do your dues cover?

First and foremost is the insurance, which is basically like gap insurance, it covers you on Club rides in case of an accident. It will not cover damage to your bike. If you have health insurance this is a supplement which covers your deductible. We have had a couple of riders who sadly needed to use it, but are glad that they had it. It could mean a substantial savings if you have a high deductible as most people do.

The dues also cover expenses such as the paint to mark our routes.

We also use those funds to pay for things like food for our meetings, and refreshments at the time trials.

This year the club paid for all of the food for the Red, White and Blue ride so that all of the money collected (over $500) could be donated to Community Café.

So basically you get discounted (in the good $ way) feed, insured, navigated and educated all for the low low price of $20 for a single or $30 for a family.

A pretty darn good deal if you ask me.

That’s all for now.

See you on Tuesday.

Mark
