Jackson County ARES will join with other amateur radio emergency communications group to conduct a region-wide exercise on Saturday, October 6. The exercise will begin at 0800 and is scheduled to conclude at 1400. We ask you to participate, as you are able. This year's exercise, as in previous years, is a deployment exercise where the majority of participants will be expected to perform assigned tasks in the field. Participants are requested to arrive at the Red Cross offices at 211 West Armour Blvd. in midtown Kansas City, MO at 0800 for a pre-deployment briefing. There will be talk-in on 146.970 MHz. repeater by contact with WØRR.
Several jurisdictions in the metro area will be participating in the exercise based on a New Madrid Seismic Zone event. An earthquake of 7+ on the Richter scale would send an estimated 250,000 people to the KC Metro area looking for refuge. This exercise will be a response to this type of event where amateur radio operators have been asked to prepare to provide communications between Red Cross and their shelters as well as between hospitals and their alternate care sites. The primary objective is to evaluate these sites for setting up communications. In order to carry out this task, ARES members need to be prepared to operate in the field and arrive appropriately equipped. Teams of ARES members will be assigned a specific site to evaluate. What follows is a list of items needed for field operations in this exercise. The list is divided into items each individual member must have and another for items each member should bring for team use, if you have those items.
