Jackson County ARES members:
The Jackson County ARES voice net normally meets on the 146.970 MHz. repeater on Saturdays at 0900 local time. For the net on Saturday, April 14 there will be a frequency change. Here's why… That WØWJB repeater is still being repaired and is not expected to return to the air in time for the net this Saturday. The detail is that the duplexer was not operating to specification and had to be removed. It is hoped the repeater will return to the air in a week and the net next week can return to its usual frequency.
For the Saturday, 14 April Jackson County ARES voice net we will use the WØWJB UHF repeater. That repeater is on 443.175 MHz. with the standard 5 MHz. positive offset. The repeater is carrier accessed -- no tone required. Jerry, WAØJRJ has agreed to be net control for that net. We thank Bill Brunkhardt for the use of this brand new UHF and VHF repeaters for ARES activities. The net on the UHF repeater will be a timely opportunity to test your ability to access that repeater and will give Bill the opportunity to get coverage information on this new repeater.
In addition, there is the possibility of severe weather in our area going into the weekend. Please keep aware. If a Jackson County ARES supported weather spotter net is convened, it will also operate on the same UHF frequency as the Saturday net. The repeater designated as the Jackson County ARES alternate two-meter repeater, 147.270 MHz., is being used by SKYWARN this year for an indefinite time period. So that frequency would only be used for liaison to SKYWARN and not for core Jackson County ARES spotter net communications .
