To prepare Jackson County ARES for the SET this fall there will be 'on the air' digital training 1930 Local on 147.015+ MHz. (PL 151.4) for the next four (4) Mondays - before October 1 exercise. Any licensed amateur with digital equipment is encouraged to participate; likely the repeater will cover a good part of the metro area.

To participate you will need the Fldigi software installed on your PC - REF: the training class 08-23-11 provided the software CD

In addition you would ideally have already verified operation of Fldigi, possibly monitored some HF transmissions via an HF receiver, a main frequency is 14.070 MHz.

Even if not verified then give this net a try. Your radio should be set for 5 - 20 watts power; this should provide a strong signal into the repeater. Check-in will be using BPSK-31 mode, possibly during the net we might shift to MT63-2000 or BPSK-63, but only those modes until we become well versed in digital use ~;-) In the class we did touch on using "acoustic coupling" so even if you do not yet have an interface, you might try at least receiving the net this way! (Ref PP Slide 20)

You can review the Power Point file JCARES_pp02.ppt to refresh any questioned information. Please do review Slide 29 - for MT63-2000 setup. Also Slide 37 to 'Automate' Flwrap, additionally FYI Slide 33 lists the overall speed that should prevail with the different modes.

If there are questions during the net we might briefly switch to voice for resolution but our mandate are digital modes. Hope to see you there.

NOTE: NL ARES uses 145.750 MHz. simplex on Sunday evenings 2000 Local.

JC ARES will likely use the Blue Springs repeater 147.015+ PL 151.4 and possibly 145.710 simplex as backup
