Hi Friends,
As I write this mail, the visions of events are flashing before me. Great time spent with classmates and batchmates recharged us for another spell, certainly not 43 years long. The buzz is about meeting in 2018, if not earlier.
It was a congregation of-
* persons with great intellectual prowess. It is hard to find so many intellectuals bunched together at one spot, particularly after the millennium change.
* persons with great achievement. One of the greatest achiever being Ms. Shubhalaxmi, who did her M. Tech and Ph.D. after becoming a mother twice and having raised her children to a certain age and then followed this new education. Now she acts as Ph.D. guide too. Also, the way she conducted the programs at college and patiently interacted with all those who came, shows that she is a blessing for all of us @ class of 73.
* largest number of 'Sathiyaye!' - those who are past 60.
* quizzes, recognizing each other - when faces have changed so much.
First vision is of myself meeting Veer Kumar Dhar, after all these years. We hugged & lifted each other and shouted like crazy. Everyone was surprised at the display of our hysteria.
Next vision is that of meeting Ballu Gattani and sharing a room with him; even at this juncture he comes across as a noble soul that he was during 5th block stay during our first year at GEC.
Next vision is that of KP Chaturvedi and Rajvardhan Singhai and their hustle and bustle and no pain on their faces. Keeping their cool and conducting the show with their military like precision with care of nurses in a labor room.
Next vision is of Abhay Jain (pidda for some and bikini for others), Abhay Jain (Mech), MM Kapoor, Alizer Solomon, Rajaneesh Roberson, Shriniwas Kongovi, Vijay Bajaj, Virendra Nagia, Ravi Jaiswal, Vikas Verma, Krishnan Ganesh, Dhakal, Thapa, VK Ghanshani, Ajay Pashine, Chinmay Shrivastava, Arun Upadhyay, HK Jansari, Abhay Upadhyay, Pehalwan Sharmaji (with request to for pardon), CM Sharma, Om Kapoor, Suresh Vaidya, VK Guin, Nitin Jain and scores of others who did not make it this time. Their faces are fresh in the memory and their voices and laughter are being awaited.
Next vision is that of two bus full awe struck persons arriving in college campus which was more green than our days. Having main ceremony in a new auditorium built by Ajai Choudhary, Vice Chairman of HCL. I remember Ajai Choudhary's visit to college when we were student. He then worked for DCM Data Products and gave a flawless presentation of Electronic Calculator with scientific function.
Next vision is of taking a round of college and hostel campus and marvelling at the newly built blocks of departments and a great banyan tree next to the Adm block.
Next vision if of Rajesh Jain, who after a scarp with a professor and failed exam due to that took to selling of razor blades with Malhotra's and his life and times as a blade salesman.
Next vision is of JP Soni proudly circulating a surviving copy of college magazine 1972-73 when JP Soni was the editor. And the curious thing is that even he doesn't remember what editorial work he did to warrant the credit. As to rest of us, we did not see that magazine until now as it got printed much after we had left the college.
Next vision is that of people taking to the floor during musical performances. Of those who attempted, Lajpat Rai, Ashutosh Tiwari, Shubhlaxmi were the best; while among the spouses, Lajpat Rai's wife and Ashutosh's wife stole the show. Lajpat Rai himself was best in Thirakana while Ashutosh Tiwari's wife was greatest with her steps and expressions. We even talked, perhaps Ashutosh doesn't know how lucky he is, or may be he knows and doesn't show it. Also, JP Soni's dancing style reminds as if he is doing steps from NCC march.
Next vision is that of a ghazal sung by invited singer- Aaj jane ki zid na karo; yoonhi pahaloo mein baithey raho.. I found almost everyone singing along. Singing along the performances was so common that I was about to skip mentioning it.
Next vision is of that moment when we stood below the balancing rock for a picture and me wondering, "What if......?"
Next vision is that of Ms. Ratnaprabha giving her introduction and singing two lines from her recent music lessons, "Ni Dha Pa Ma Pa Ga Ma Pa, Pa Ma Ga Re Sa Re Ga Re Sa...." As I sat in the bus from Bhopal to Indore the following morning I tried humming those notes and came up with lyrics, "Sada Shiv Bhajamana..." It seems the line she sang is from Pandit Vishnu Rao Bhatkhande's book and these lyrics are the Bhajan which corresponds to the notes she sang. I remember this from my 8th standard music class. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Final vision is that of awe struck myself from grace and cultured mannerism with which everyone presented himself and herself and at the same time ladies muttering that boys have got their 'bachpan' back!
And it was a treat to be there; so be there next time too!
