One of my students, a Mac user, is reporting the issue shown in the
attachments below. JaamSim displays the splash graphic and then the
tool windows, but then crashes immediately with the error "GUIFrame quit
unexpectedly". (She also attached video, but it's too big to post.)

Any ideas? I asked her to try the "display menu" app, but my
recollection is that the symptoms of the retina display issue are
different -- you can see the canvas but can't select objects.

Thanks, Jonathan

Hi professor Eckstei,
I'm An in your BDAUU class at 1:40.
I have been trying to install JaamSim since last week for a couple of
times. I followed the instructions, and everything was going well till I
opened the app. It kept crashing every time I opened it. I have searched
and tried many ways, but it still doesn't work.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you so much professor!
An

Thanks for the full error dump in your other message, could you
confirm which version of jaamsim you are seeing this issue in?

Harvey

The crash dump does point to the fault coming from the 3D rendering
library we use, I've produced a set of test builds here that I would
be very appreciative if your student could try and see if it resolves
the issue:

https://github.com/jaamsim/jaamsim/releases/tag/v2021-02-test01

Direct link to the jar version:

https://github.com/jaamsim/jaamsim/releases/download/v2021-02-test01/JaamSim2021-02-test01.jar

Hope that helps.

Hi all,

I seem to be having the same or a similar issue. I have two Macs that I am working on, one with an older version of iOS and another with a newer. JaamSim works with the older version, but I need to run JaamSim on the newer. Its OS 10.15.7. I'm running using the default Jar Launcher program. When I try to launch, the program starts to open, but then it quickly crashes. I've also tried launching from Eclipse, and after downloading a couple ODKs. They always result in the same problem.

When I launch from the command line, I get the following error:
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# SIGILL (0x4) at pc=0x00007fff35ee8abc, pid=96849, tid=89111
#
# JRE version: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (16.0.1+9) (build 16.0.1+9-24)
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (16.0.1+9-24, mixed mode, sharing, tiered, compressed oops, compressed class ptrs, g1 gc, bsd-amd64)
# Problematic frame:
# C [AppKit+0x3e5abc] -[NSOpenGLContext setView:]+0xe5
#
# No core dump will be written. Core dumps have been disabled. To enable core dumping, try "ulimit -c unlimited" before starting Java again

The file that Harvey posted above was helpful and got me further along than I was. I ran the test.01 file and it successfully opened without crashing, however, the program doesn't open the main window where you drag icons, and I can't seem to access any file systems. I am unable to see any files when I go to "open," and I also cannot open any of the Examples. When I choose an example and click "Open," nothing happens.

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Frances

... following up on the above, using the test file posted in this thread, I received the following error in the log. I've taken a screenshot because JaamSim won't let me copy and paste. See attached.

There is a known problem with running JaamSim under MacOS version 11.2 or later on the Intel chip. It doesn't work at all with the M1 chip.

We will be testing a possible fix in the next few weeks, but cannot make any promises.

Checking back over a year later.  Still "Quits Unexpectedly" on my Macbook Pro (M2 Max, MacOS 13.2.1)

Only option is to run a virtual machine?  Argh.

Running into issues crashing as well. Have tried the command line solutions given, but no luck.

Nothing has changed on support for Mac computers. The jar file runs correctly on most Mac computers with an Intel chip. It does not work on Mac computers with an Apple chip (M1, M2, etc.). For these computers, you need to run Parallels.

We do not plan to put any effort into fixing this problem because none of our paying customers for JaamSim Pro use Mac computers. Perhaps, some Mac user would like to make a significant cash contribution to JaamSim to fund a fix for the problem.

At long last, we have a version of JaamSim that works on Mac with the M1, M2, etc. chips as well as the old Intel chips. It has been tested successfully on a variety of Mac computers, but to be cautious, we have issued this version as a test release. You can find it on GitHub at:
The file to download is JaamSim2023-06-jogl25.jar
