Just polling the user group for anyone that is building JaamSim from source code, would an updated requirement of requiring the Java 25 JDK to build jaamsim present any difficulties for people? The runtime compatibility would remain at Java 8, it would only require Java 25 to build JaamSim.

I got my JDK (for Windows) from adoptium.net which is currently 21. They say:

"JDK 25 Release - In Progress. We are creating the JDK 25 GA binaries for Eclipse Temurin 25+36."

Where do you get your 25 from? If that's freely available, then in principle not an issue. I do build my own version with some cosmetic adjustments and I'd like to continue to do this.

Best wishes,

John

My intention is to stick with the Adoptium/Temurin builds from adoptium.net for the released jaamsim jars and exes, I've been testing using the pre-release builds internally with the openjdk builds and haven't actually seen any issues thus far.

Tentative plans for now:

Release 2025-08 - only containing the update to Jogl 2.6.0-final among other fixes/enhancements
Release 2025-09 - produce the pre-built exe and jar file using a JDK 25 build chain, while still supporting existing JDK 11, 17 and 21 builders.
Release 2025-10 - add additional feature that requires a JDK 25 build environment to build jaamsim.

This will give the JDK 25 some time to become more widely available for people's preferred providers and isolate some of the changes that could introduce bugs as we change the build environment around.

Anyone else have thoughts out there?

Harvey
