Hi j3t,
the jWebSocket Server is based on J2SE 6.0 to benefit from various features that are not available in 5.0.
The same applies for our J2SE client. However, our JavaME client for instance is even Java 1.3 level, and the Android client is Java 1.5 (5.0).
So in general it is possible to communicate with the server in any Java version.
We do not support Java SE 5 for the server and our Java SE Client.
What is the special reason for you to keep 5.0? Especially because multiple Java Versions can be used on a single system.
May I kindly ask you to post your further questions into our forum. The questions there will be answered more frequently and the community will benefit from the answers as well. Thanks in advance.
Best Regards
Alex
