Hi everyone I just wanted to let the group know that we have decided to put hull number 64 for sale.  She is currently in Youngstown, NY on Lake Ontario.  She has been a fresh water hull for the last 12 or so years.  Large inventory, 2 season old Doyle main and 1 season old 155%.  If anyone is interested or knows of anyone let me know before we go down the broker path.  A survey was completed last year as well, very minor issues were observed (refit bilge hose, change a few electrical connections for the bow lights).

Don't price it too cheap.  Nick's boat was priced at $44,900 and sold within a couple weeks of being listed (it was probably on YachtWorld for less than a week).

My understanding is that Nick's boat also didn't have instruments and needed new sails.  Figure that in and we're looking at mid-50's.  Let's keep our boat values UP!

If your boat needs any dry core rework - you will be hard pressed to get more than $37k.  I sold Zut Alors #12 in December of 2012 for about that price and it had two sets of new sails.  The work was minor, but it scared people off for a year.  I'll be really surprised if you get $42k max.

My observation over 10+ years is that J/92's sell more quickly and for higher prices on the West Coast than they do on the East Coast.

I may have a Texas-based buyer for your boat. I have hull number 77 in Houston. Please send me details and I will share them with the prospective buyer. If you'd like to call me and fill me in on the details my number is 713-906-7350. George

Thanks George, I'll send you a note and then give you a call to fill in the details.  As for the core, there is one small spot which will be done.  The majority was taken care of a few years ago.  One broker mentioned low to mid $20's siting a boat sold recently in Michigan.  Seems very low to me considering what 29's are going for.
She is equipped with Tack Tick's, 2 year old Doyles 155% and main, carbon/, cruising main, 153 dacron, 100 dacron, 4 kites, 1 light, 3 mid to heavy.  new sheets, main and jib halyards, new blocks for main and chute, 6 or 7 year old Awlgrip, Flag Blue.

Several years ago, a J/92 sold for way under market value because the broker thought it was a J/30 and priced it accordingly.  It's 30 ft, right?

Yacht world shows a number of Classic 92's in Europe and in USD they reflect the higher price, along the lines the "high" folks here are discussing.

So many variables go into what a boat is worth. I payed a low going in price for my boat that took into account the fact that the boat had not had any maintenance since it was purchased in 1995. All of the rigging was original, instruments dead, motor not running but repairable, green hull and mast chalked, deck core moisture but no de-lamination, tiller rotten from the sun, head pump frozen, original sails and so on. On the positive side, little use, no deck crazing and the interior looked like a museum. The result of all of this is that after a proper rehab and a full set of Quantum sails, I am in the boat for more than the top end of pricing noted on this board. I also have a perfect boat that I really enjoy.

If you have kept up with the boat you should expect the high-end, it is worth it. If several of the systems will need to be replaced, major deck work is required and so on, not so much. I looked at a couple of other makes of boats that needed pretty much everything, 20 years of no investment, with owners that wanted the average asking price for the boat.

I agree with George.  Around here, Alerion Express 28's sell for more than J/105's, even though they were built in the same factory.  We can do the same thing with our 92's if we take care of them and are patient when we need to sell one.

Last weekend the gals were slack-jawed when I told them my boat was 21 years old.

The boat was taken off the market by the Dealer/Broker. The dealer had the boat surveyed and it had some deck issue. They had dropped the price to $29,900, but have now taken off the market while they review the repair costs to fix the boat. It had a clean survey in 2013, but 2014 survey showed lots of wet spots on the deck. The boat was raced all 2014 without and issues, but the meter showed differently.

I'm in the market for a J92 or J92s, so I have my head to the ground trying to find the right boat.

The meters are not very reliable.  It needs to be in the hands of a surveyor who has tested it carefully with different materials to see how it reads.  Many a deal has been scotched by a moisture meter in the hands of an inexperienced surveyor.

If they haven't done some test bores from underneath to verify the readings, I would have very little faith in them.

asking price was way too low anyway.  A J92 in fair to good condition is worth 45K min.  Regardless of sails.

Hi- I just wanted to clarify a point made in an earlier post.  The boat was not traded in due to a bad survey, the most recent survey was completed after the P&S was signed.  I was told #64 has since been sold.
