Forward Hatch

Hi all,

I need to replace my forward hatch, anyone know the make / model?    My bowman fell into it hard last night during a take down, broke the glass, frame, hinge...

Hi Christian,

Assuming you are talking about J92 classic, I believe it was a Lewmar product.  I replaced mine as the lexan had cracked with a Lewmar Ocean Hatch Size 60 Flat Base.  I wish I hadn't and had just had the lexan replaced properly as that model is discontinued and I replaced it with one that had a different profile.  It was a bit of a pain to mount (holes were different as I recall) and when it opens the centre of the lexan hits the deck before the frame.  It hasn't broken .... yet, but is certainly more vulnerable.

My problem was I had replaced the lexan locally here in NS and they didn't do a good job, so I gave up and bought a new one.  I do, however, still have the old one ... the frame, hinges, etc. are all fine. I understand that  Select Plastics https://selectplastics.com/mrine-hatch-repair/ does good repairs.  Maybe you could have yours repaired or if you want my old one, you could have it refurbished or at least the lexan replaced.

The actual frame and hinge cracked on my hatch so looks to be well beyond repair.    I would be interested in your old one if you would be willing to part with it.   How much would you want for it?

Select plastics is very close to where I keep my boat so getting the new lens will be easy.

I had my lens replaced by Annapolis Maritime Plastics a few years ago - took the old one in to use as a template.  The whole thing cost $160 or so including a tube of black silicone and rubber foam gasket.  I called a shop in CT that specializes in Lewmar lens replacement and wanted more than double plus shipping.   There's a bit of a trick to getting the lens seated correctly in the frame - since the gasket will force the top of it to protrude past the frame.   Otherwise, an easy job.
