My B&G 7 inch Zeus Touch chart plotter is currently mounted on its bracket screwed into the bulkhead over the sink in the cabin of my 92S. Even though I also have the GoFree WiFi unit aboard, I usually end up using my Garmin handheld GPS in the cockpit to navigate - I can’t easily see the Zeus Touch while steering and the WiFi connection to my iPhone or iPad has its limitations.

I am considering moving the Zeus Touch to a pivoting RAM mount attached to the underside of the cabin top just forward of the companionway hatch, so it could poke up through the companionway while underway. That’s not an ideal solution, but would have the advantage of clear sightlines from the helm.

Curious as to what others distance racing their 92s are doing?

My eyes aren't good enough to navigate using a chartplotter more than an
arm's length away. :)

I have a Garmin 440 at the nav station wired into my Nexus, so I can
display GPS-derived numbers on the cockpit or mast displays as I see
fit, but for visual navigation I use a handheld Garmin 78SC. West Marine
frequently offers it at a serious discount.  It's frugal with batteries,
and I use NiMH rechargeables to run it.

For distance racing, I also run a laptop at the nav station running
Expedition.

After casting about for a more elegant solution I finally installed a Ram Mount in the companionway.  It's been fine.

Ditto on Vixen. Seems to be the most convenient and efficient use of space. Mike

I have the exact same unit and mounted mine on the port side cockpit bulkhead below the halyard winch. There is enough space between the bulkhead and the interior plastic cosmetic liner that the whole thing fits. Wires and connections all feed to starboard between the liner and the hatch to meet up with power and data connections. Everyone on the cockpit can see it and use it, including me even all the way at the back, and frankly I couldn't be happier with the install. For protection I installed a couple of bar shaped drawer pulls on either side of the unit -- no issues and no damage after one season. Can send pics if you want but this is unquestionably the way to go.

I put my Zeus 2 on the stbd cabin bulkhead.  I would have preferred the port as the pole line is not there, but there was already a hole from an old instrument on stbd. It works great there and can be seen from either side. The biggest draw back is when you're heeling hard and have to go down to the low side to examine a chart, although most of the time I am on sailsteer which I can see well from both sides.  I prefer not having it on a swing bracket so you still have to all the information when you have the hatch board in.

Mine is located  on the port bulkhead.  I feel it works great in this location. Picture is included.

I did a garmin 476? At the nav station. Mounted it to a panel that I installed. Have the vhf, stereo an instrument display, some power plugs and a clock mounted on that panel.

We just use the below deck Garmin as the gps engine for the instruments and to show the XM weather which we can see the NEXRAD images from above deck. If there is a big band of orange or red on the NEXRAD we send someone below to check it out.  Otherwise the crew is only down below if they are off watch

For above deck maps we use a handheld Garmin.

If I get some extra time and money I would like to replace the engine control panel with a display that could show maps and XM weather then I would add a nmea 2000 converter box to get the engine data on the display as well...
