I was thinking of buying some sheets off ebay of this stuff.  I love the idea of putting this on the cockpit floor of the J/92.  I did see that Zaff had a grey version of this.  Does anybody have any experience with it.   Be honest would it look dorky?  Would it add too much weight?   Would it be freakin awesome.  All thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Rob Flying Fish

I'm the new owner of Zaff, and I don't have anything bad to say about the foam.  Some areas are starting to show some wear, and I'll probably have to replace it in a couple years, but it has great grip.  I think it looks pretty cool too.

The foam looks good but I wonder about how much of a hassle it would be to address any future balsa core issues? I just fixed a couple cockpit soft spots this winter by opening from above and using bottom layer to hold new foam and glass work in place. Then just repainted w kiwigrip. I’m sure I’ll be back again and think the foam would be in the way.

Hi there,

The picture of the foam product didn't come through but think I have a pretty good idea.

If it helps, we lined the cockpit deck with a product from this company: https://www.seadek.com/SampleRequestForm/

We had issues with the balsa core softening in the cockpit area between the traveler and the hatchway ... had to drill a bunch of holes and then inject some epoxy to stiffen ... as a result, that part of the deck looked like it had smallpox.

We added the foam over the top and wow, not only did it form perfectly to the space but 1) it's super kind on the knees 2) non-slip enough and 3) has thus far lasted 5 years and still looks great even though it's exposed to the sun everyday.   We used a light gray color, 3 or 5 mm thick version, added PSA, does not look dorky at all, negligible weight...not sure why we didn't do this earlier and is awesome.

Hope this helps.

Sea Dek is standard for new or as refit kit on TP 52's, Maxi 72's and similar top end pro boats.
And a RP 66 I was going to do BDA race on.
Very highly regarded by the pros in this arena.
FWIW.

I’ve had EVA foam down for 3 years on Jazz. Just make sure it’s easy to replace sections that get worn.

Finally, put my EVA floor in.. Love it so far. I still have to add some foot braces and back blocks for the Backstay.   Will add better pics soon.
