I have J/92 #25 "Excite me!" that I have been trying to sell for over
a year. I currently have the boat listed for $44,000 with a trailer.
The boat is located in Holland, Michigan. Mostly I been relying on the
classified listing I have on the Sailing Anarchy website. I have
received a lot of inquires. A few deals started but fell apart because
of transportation cost to the west coast; they found another boat on
the west cost, or the buyer not able to sell their boats. I am curious
if anyone has any thoughts on webs sites I should list the boat on, or
other ideas for selling the boat. Here is a link to some pics of the
boat http://www.flickr.com/photos/j92_25/sets/72157604036379686/

Most J Boats worldwide get listed on
http://www.mcmichaelyachtbrokers.com/mcmichael/mcmichael_3.html which is a
brokerage in Larchmont, NY. Shooting Star was listed on this site. Your
boat was not. Are you aware of this worldwide JBoat search tool? I simply
typed in the length range of my interest and away I went.

Incidentally, on my way back from Michigan I called a friend to tell them I
had just purchased Shooting Star and they suggested I check out your boat.
Using my laptop and blackberry internet connection I checked out your SA
listing, but I was already committed to Shooting Star. It might have helped
to know your boat was in the neighborhood. I live in New Jersey and found
boats listed in Michigan were particularly well priced. Plus I wanted a
fresh water boat. I don't need to tell you the market is pretty tough out
there. Looks like the listing prices for used 92's have dropped
significantly since I boat Shooting Star in May 2008. No regrets. I
freakin' love that boat. The J92 is a terrific boat. Not much for
accommodations. But I'm not much being IN the boat. I'm all about
sailing.. racing in particular. Best of luck.

Hi Patrick,

We own a J/92 that we keep in Charlevoix (Navicula).  We have been constantly hounded by a guy that wants to buy it, but we really do not want to sell it.  It is a perfect boat for our family.  I can not remember the name of the guy, but if you contact Jeff Glenny, at Irish Boat Shop in Charlevoix, I think that he may know who the guy is.  I don't know if this man is still in the market due to our economy.  Also, beware, Jeff may want a percent because he is sales at Irish.  It is definitely worth a try, especially since it is a person in Michigan.

Good Luck.

The commission is worth it vs. having it towed out to the coast.

Irish Boat Shop sold my boat (#18) to its original owner (Joe Moore in
MA) back in 1994. Its original suit of sails were Irish Sails
(including the ass'y spinnaker). Just a couple of months ago I
finally retired the mains'l cover with its green clover. Say Hi for
me (well for the boat actually).

One of my crew happens to be a broker at McMichael's. You should definitely reach out to him for ideas and/or assistance in buying or selling a J92. He knows the boat and the market very well.
