Hi,
When we bought our J-42 "Felice" in 1996 we got a big seize drawing with the boat and specifications in upper left-corner. After 30 years hanging in my studio I would like to replace the drawing with a fresher version. I am looking to print the drawing on thicker paper, again in big size.
I can not find the file online.
If anybody has this file it would be very much appreciated if file can be shared.

Greetings from Amsterdam,

Wow,  pretty cool.    I can't help with the file.  I know in my engineering past,  older drawings could be taken to a compentent engineering printing house and they can recreate a CAD file and then convert it to a PDF.     Either scan or redraw.     Cost depends on if you want to to actual scale or just looking pretty.

I'd be game to crowd share cost.

Don’t know if this would be of any use but if you go to   https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/j42/ there are some of the elements of your graphic.

Hi there,

I requested this from JBoats a few years back and Alan Johnstone kindly responded with the attached drawings.

Cheers,
James

Thanks James, this looks good, but I will still try to find the original, because it has the dimensions on it, and boat-type-name plus name of designer.
The one you got from Alan is more anonymous.

When I find the file I will share it here,
Sjors

Ask around, there are lots of shops (kinko's?) that can scan your drawing to digital format (TIFF) so you can edit in most image manipulation software programs (photoshop?) then take the file to the same shop to have it printed.  I'll go in on the crowd funding.  (BTW done this a lot w/ old engineering drawings)

If you can have it scanned, I have access to a 44" printer and can print it. Or you can send it to me and I can scan and print it for you.I have a large format scanner as well. I work for a school and the graphic kids could probably clean up the image if there are any spots.
I would love a copy of that scan as well!

As a J/40 owner, it would be great to do a crowd-sourced sail plan for the J/40 as well.   Would any other J/40 owners be interested in a full-sized print?

Sorry, I hit "Send" too quickly.

Attached is the J/40 sailplan as a pdf from the old J/40Sailors site.   It definitely needs to be cleaned up to be frame-worthy.  Unfortunately, unlike Sjors' J/42 drawing, it doesn't have the 2 plan views superimposed on the sailplan.   That one conveys a lot more detail about the boat's design.

I also have a 36" printer used for printing nautical charts mostly, but happy to print this for folks for the cost of the paper/ink/shipping.  All I need is a file.

Hi Dennis,

No luck yet, thanks for reminding me.
I just send an e-mail to Stu Johnstone, see below.
I hope see can help me and then I will share the file here.

Dear Stu,

In 1996 we bought J-42 hullnumber 7.
Thirty years later we still sail our ‘Felice' extensively, mainly in Europe now.

The boat is in excellent condition with new engine, new hull-paint and new instruments and sails. We hope to keep her many years more.

All those 30 years a drawing that we got from Jeff when we bought the boat has been hanging in my studio.
But the paper has gone bad and the lines are less visible, faded by sunlight.

I would very much like to print a new version of this same drawing. It is a different drawing than I can find online, this one has the dimensions on it and also it says that the boat is designed by Rodney Johnstone, which makes it much nicer than the online version.

If you have this drawing available in a pdf or some other format I would very much like to print the file here in Amsterdam, on high-quality paper.
I will then hopefully have another 30 years to enjoy this beautiful lines in my studio….

Greetings from to long-term J-fans from Holland,
Lillian and Sjors
