Hi to all familiar with small Mercs
I inherited a Mercury 9.9 hp and as it was always on the stern of the dinghy when I ran it I never noticed the following until I had it out on a stand doing some maintenance
After changing the impeller, reinstalling the lower unit and running the engine on the stand there is a strong stream of water coming out of the back pee hole as intended. Good news!
There is also a steady stream of water coming out of two weep holes towards the front of both sides of the underside of the flange located just below where the lower unit meets the upper (where the bolts go to attach the lower unit), as well as a stream of water coming out of the front edge of the seam between the lower and upper units, where upon inspection I found a purposeful notch in the front edge of the seam of lower unit.
I assume they are all there to let water out but just wanted to confirm that they're not just for drainage purposes but also to allow (excess?) water out while the engine is running
Thanks for any insight
