Electric winch conversion

I am considering installing the Lewmar electric winch kit on my primary winches. Anyone completed this task as a DYI and have suggestions, photos and key learnings? Info like motor placement especially in the stb aft cabin, wire runs, etc would be very helpful. Expensive upgrade and I only want to do it once!

Hi Galen

We added a stbd primary electric upgrade with a dedicated breaker connected to the feed to the existing port winch breaker on the inner wall of the port cockpit locker.  We only use one at a time under load so that works for ampacity. 

No big issues. Had to buy new winch as well because the ‘96 old manual Lewmar 50 was not compatible with the electric upgrade.
