We sail on Kentucky Lake and need to replace our old (very old) dodger. Does anyone know of someone who could do this? I talked with Annapolis Custom Yacht Canvas last year since the boat in front of us on the dock has one of their Bimini’s (very nice). They were polite, but firm, that without the boat present, they would not take on the work. Looking for any ideas. One idea is if there is an Annapolis based J40, maybe they could use it as a template. Any other ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Wayne,

You were probably talking to Dan O.  Correct?  He's a very good friend of mine.   I'd be happy to offer my J/40 (hull #45) for templating your bimini.  He and his business partner closed their shop last year but are now working for another company where boats are usually trailered to their facility.   Unfortunately, just about an hour ago I heard he's in the hospital after a very serious bike accident over the weekend.

We can take the discussion off-line if you'd like.  My direct email is jmruzzi2 AT gmail.com

We took ours to Cover Loft in Annapolis last year for new isinglass, I could be convinced to bring it over there again on your behalf if needed.

The issue might be, however, that the canvas maker is not certain that YOUR tubing is identical to the sample presented.  In fact, are YOU certain of that?

All—Thanks for the quick replies. I believe the existing frame will be used again with just new upgraded material and upgraded glass, maybe an added strut as suggested by someone. I make all kinds of excuses to come to Annapolis and part of this plan would be to bring the dodger with me.

I mostly spoke with a young lady about the work being done in Annapolis but I am sure she was relaying the conversation to someone else, maybe did talk with Dan O.

Thanks for offering to have your all’s J40s serve as template boats. I am going to look into this a little and with that possibility maybe someone there would agree to take it on—Wayne
