Hi all,

Looking to see if such a certificate like this or similar exists for J/42s? I've owned our J/42 10 years, and don't recall it coming with the boat or seeing one in my files. I am asking as this came up in this years Bermuda racing SERs requirements. The SER language states. My J/42 is 1996:

"A monohull with the earliest of Age or Series Date before the 1 January 2010 not complying with WORLD SAILING OSR 3.03.1, 3.03.2 and 3.03.3 shall have been designed built, maintained, modified and repaired in accordance with the requirements of one of the following: • the ABS Guide for Building and Classing Offshore Yachts in which case the yacht shall have on board either a certificate of plan approval issued by ABS, or written statements signed by the designer and builder which confirm that they have respectively designed and built the yacht in accordance with the ABS Guide."

Can anyone provide insights into if this type of certificate or letter existed and if willing share one with me to use as a proxy for Allegiant? Given our past ocean performance, there are means to seek a waiver, so I am not worried about racing, its more a matter of documentation. No one has ever asked me for this before!

any help is appreciated.
regards,
Bert

I don't know about the 42's, but the 44's have this plaque on the main bulkhead. Maybe there is something similar? 150732F4-6E25-4B1E-8674-490ECD4BA7A2_1_105_c.jpeg

For racing a J/46 under the same regulation, I have a letter from J/Boats.

Definitely not one of those on my boat. :-(

Hi Bert,

I got the following file from the previous owner  of Jade (J/42 #19) (he had done the NBR race). That should be OK, I presume. BTW, Jade will also do the NBR this year. We are three J/42s now (with Dianthus).

Bert and David: How about doing a team for the 3-boat Pratt Trophy ? Let's take this email separately.

Thank you! This will work. Much appreciated.

Still wish we had a cool plaque though stamped into the boat!

and yes we are up for the Team.

and PS - You two should both be doing the A2B with us as well. The Bermuda Boomerang!

FWIW, not as sexy as cast bronze, but you can have anything you like “laser etched” on bronze, brass, or whatever, in a variety of sizes, for a few bucks.  This one came from “plaquemaker.com.” But they don’t stand up particularly well to salt water, so best mounted inside.

I had two made, in bronze, reasoning that these indicia should be handy at each radio station.  IIRC, this size was listed under “name badges,” although you could specify mounting holes and screws.  The one at the nav station has taken a little spray from the open port. The one at the helm, after four years, is just an illegible sheet of mottled green.
