Fellow Lucky J Owners,
I bought Anona from Kenneth Ott in 2014. It's #16 of 35. The cherry interior was beautiful, but twice in 12 years i have had a flood
while underweigh, of unknown origin. Shame on me for taking so long to react to the flood. This spring I went looking for 2 3/8" teak and Holly repeat plywood
and found it here in San Diego at Frost hardwood, but only in 1/2 " thickness. So I had to laminate a piece of 1/4" marine plywood onto it
before I could start to replace the five aftermost sole pieces in the main cabin, which are all 3/4". (I have subsequently found a business with a press
that can do this laminating, they can accommodate 4' X 10').

If you are asking why I used Teak and Holly, you'd be right, because the interior of a J-46 is cherry. Two facts pertain. First, I didn't think Cherry and Holly
was available. Second, after I had already bought the T&H, for $500, I found Cherry and Holly at one lumber source in Florida, in 4' X 10' pieces. It would need to
be crated and shipped. So I made a mental note that if the T&H I had made didn't look good enough, I could always get the C&H in the fall and replace everything
during the winter. Winter here is defined by me as the time during which we don't beercan race.

So today I decided to take the two large rectangles of sole that surround the dinner table, which were in good shape, and refinish them, rather than replace, and I got a
surprise while sanding the original finish off. The sole is actually Teak and Holly, with some cherry coloring in the finish.
Respectfully submitted,
Fred Hawes
