Everyone,
My J/40, Spada, has a teak cockpit footwell panel, which I believe was an option at the original purchase. Unfortunately, one edge started to become separated from the gelcoat underneath, probably from the ice and snow over the winter. There don't seem to be any mechanical fasteners, either to the adjoining teak strip, or to the hull underneath. With a slight tug, I was able to remove it completely, but the adjoining strip has also started to lift from the fiberglass underneath.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Right now, my thought is scraping to remove the glue residue, then use 5200 or construction adhesive with weights to hold it in place until the glue sets.
Another related issue is the the panel had been sanded enough times over the years that the routed rabbet/dado for the black caulk is now totally flush in places. There's not enough depth for any caulk to adhere.
Thanks in advance.
Joe
