J40 Resolve hull # 65... I think my yard needs me to mark the rail/hull where the hoist straps should go.

This should help…J42: (it won’t hit the paddle wheel with this set-up; although, I usually pull mine when not sailing during the summer to keep it clean…quick and easy to put the plug in while boat is in the water)

Frank doesn’t your's have those little plates on the the rail already? All my J/boats had plates that said something like “lift or strap” on the rail take a look they probably disintegrated over the years look for like little rivet heads.
By the way I think I raced on a 40 named Resolve back in the Nineties owned by a guy named Rich if memory serves.

I am the yard foreman at Lyman Morse in Camden as well as co owner of the J-40 SMITTEN HULL NUMBER 83. We have 2 “sling marks “ on the hull for any yards to see to haul correctly. That being said at Lyman we put green tape on the lifelines before we haul based on our records  as well as competent Captains and owners based on past haul/ launches. We’re fortunate at Lyman as most owners/Captains have pics of hauls in the past .

No plates on my toe rail.
Your prop shaft is probably further back, but here’s a picture of where the keel is on #007. You can figure out where the paddle wheel is in relation to the mast, port lights etc.

Frank, my J/40, hull #33 still has the badges on the toe rail. Happy to get the exact location for you next time i'm down at the boat, probably mid-week. No idea if engine placement impacts lifting points, but #33 has the engine under the sink.

At the base of the cabin stairs lift those boards to show them the stuffing box. The strap needs to be in front of them. Also show them in the v- berth where the speedo/ depth sounder is. They can lift in or behind.

Just pull the paddle wheel sensor before you haul.  They'll get it close enough after that and no risk to your instruments.

I can get a measurement tomorrow on J40#78's slingpoints, but my engine is also under the sink FWIW

 On Hull #33, forward sling badge is even with the front edge of the mast. Any instruments "should" be further forward. Aft sling badge is just forward of the primary winches. I measured this at 87" from the transom, along the outside of the toe rail. Again, this is for a boat with the center engine mounted under the galley sink.

Thanks for the info.....    I think my yard damaged my prop when hauling my J40 Resolve,  #65..   last season...  so I'll use "87 inches forward along  toe rail from back... Thanks....Frank
