So I lost my spinner pole in a very heavy winded race tonight. Wondering if anyone has any leads or would like to part with there’s if they aren’t using it. Looking for a spinnaker pole and not a whisker pole as I would like to fly my symmetrical next year.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that.   Hopefully someone can provide a length and OD / ID measurements as I don’t see one in the rigging spec doc.   J30 poles are capped at 12.5 feet and J27s at 10.5 feet (those lengths include fittings) and most of the J28 measurements (including “J”) are 1 - 1.5 foot below J30 so it probably is max 11.5.   You can get tubing from various manufacturers, I think defender carries some, and then buy the fittings/cordage and make your own.  We did that for a fleet of day sailors at a club I worked at years ago.   There are also adjustable telescoping poles that can double as whisker but those tend to be heavier and more expensive and inevitably bind up in saltwater environment if not cared for.  Alternatively you might get lucky with a marketplace or craigslist one that is close in spec or maybe someone here will never use the one that came with their boat.   For example there is a 10.5 foot / 2.5 inch listed in fishkill on marketplace now for $250,   a 10’8” / 3” one in Islip for $80.

Thanks Geoff! That one in Fishkill is basically the same one. I’ve sent a message I’m hoping the person still has it.

The “J” measurement of the J/28 is 1 foot less than the J/30 (10.5' vs. 11.5’), so I would expect the pole to be 1’ shorter., making the pole 11.5’.

Generally your spin pole is longer than the “J” dimension. For the J/24, the “J” is 9.5’ and the class legal max spin pole length is ~10.5’.

I’ll try to measure my pole tonight when I’m on the boat.

Thanks Greg!

Forespar has the pole length at 10.5. Geoff actually found something close to me at that length. Looks like almost the identical pole. Let me know what you get for your measurement.

I’ll trade you the measurements of the pole for the measurements of your symmetrical spinnaker 🤣

Pole that came with RABBIT (Hall Spars) measures 10’ 5 1/2” end to end. NB, can’t say have ever used it on boat as end fitting corroded.  Tried to send pics but not attaching.

Thanks Sandy! Geoff found me a 10.5 pole which I’m picking up Saturday. Good to know yours measures very close.

The pole is almost identical to the one I lost but my old pole also had a corroded end so this may have worked out in my favor😁

The tape measure on my boat is only 10’ long, but the pole measured around 10.5’.

Hi All

Late tro this thread, but FWIW, J28 rigging specs lists SPL as 10.5', as everyone has confirmed.
