Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows the brand of port windows and have a resource to get the rubber gaskets. Mine are dried and cracked and leaking a little bit.

Thanks!

Frank

Frank,

When Hatchmasters redid my foredeck hatch last year they thought the ports looked like Bomar ports and told me I  might have to contact Pompanette to see if there is a repair solution for these.  I never followed up but seem to recall a thread about these on the owner's forum.

Hope that helps,

Sandy Welte

Thanks Sandy, I will contact them about my window gaskets as well.  As with Frank's, mine are dry and cracking too.

I just realized the west marine link is for the Bomar NIBO hatches. I reached out to pompanette and waiting for a response on the port light gaskets.

pompanette says the part is discontinued. Wondering if anyone else has a solution they have gotten to work. For now I’m going to silicon the outside.

Thanks

Here is detailed info. Bomar port lights 3000 series extruded aluminum

Cabin - 4 total

Portlight = Bomar N3519

Screen = Bomar P3000-04

V-Berth - 2 total

Portlight = Bomar N3414

Screen = Bomar P3000-01

If the gaskets are just dry, I would suggest lubricating them like you would an o-ring. Try Hayward Jack’s Multilube.

If the gaskets are too far gone, this replacement idea has interested me for a while. I haven’t pursued it yet, so let me know if you contact him. There is a guy named  Stephen Worsfold in Wisconsin who can craft a frameless less that uses the existing hinges.  According to the J34c website, Steve's number is (218) 349-6020.  The product looks like this: http://www.jcruiser.org/uploads/3/4/3/3/34331946/bomar-ports.jpg.

Good luck,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff this is very helpful. One of the gaskets is completely cracked and leaking through the gasket so I have to figure out something. I will look into calling that person and get back to you if I go that route.

I picked up some gasket material at the hardware store and stuck it up there replacing the gasket.  Works fine so far.

Thanks Art! So you cut out the old gasket and the placed the new one in the same place? Any chance you have a picture of the gasket you used?

Jeff, I just spoke to Stephen. The replacement windows run about $200-$225 per window. Right now he is basically out of the custom hinges he makes. he may be able to make one or two windows for me as he only has 3 or 4 hinges left. Seems like he would consider ordering more if he had more orders. I may have him make me one window to start with as one of my windows is really bad. I will keep you posted about it.

Thanks everyone!

Afraid I do not have pictures, just grabbed gasket material at Ace Hardware. Found material that matched original in size.

4oz LubeTube – Pool O-Ring Lubricant (Made in USA)

from Amazon
We apply this to the outside seal on the portlights about twice a year.  It has helped a lot.
