Dear J-LINCers,

We hope this finds you well and look forward to seeing you soon for our next CoP: Tuesday, February 17, 1-4 PM at our Manhattan office (520 Eighth Avenue, 15th Floor). The theme of this gathering will be reflection.

Throughout the first two semesters of J-LINC, we have encouraged you to refine your program design and experiment with new approaches in response to a set of essential questions:

How might we…

• encourage parents to engage with their children?

• empower parents to take an active role in leading activities/learning?

• connect families to one another?

• engage parents and children in rich Jewish content?

• engage parents and children in more constructivist learning (through an environment that supports families’ learning and constructing meaning on their own)?

In recent J-LINC experiences, we have seen all the ERPs develop and experiment with a variety of new strategies inspired by these driving questions; our next meeting will be an opportunity for you to share these with your fellow educators and reflect as a community.  In preparation, please:

v  reflect on something new that you tried this semester in response to any of the essential questions above;

v  identify a video clip that showcases the new idea/approach/technique in action (LINKS BELOW);

v  and come ready to discuss what you learned through trying it out. Is this something you wish to deepen and carry into future experiences? Is there another area in which you would like to focus your experimentation this spring?

Please let me know by Sunday, February 15 where I can find the clip you’d like to showcase at our CoP. If you are feeling fancy, you can right click the YouTube video at the spot where the clip begins, select “copy URL of video at current time” from the popup menu, then share that URL with me. Or simply let me know the date of the experience, what’s happening in the clip, and whether it falls closer to the beginning, middle or end of the program.

Last but not least, we know some of your teams include staff who support J-LINC either behind the scenes or in the implementation of programs. We value their contributions and welcome all such staff to join in as thought partners for the luncheon and activities on the 17th.

Let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to coming together at last and catching up with you.

Shabbat Shalom,

The J-LINC Team
