Hi all,

I'm trying to install Izpack 4.2 on Debian GNU/Linux, but even editing the java.poly file with java.security.AllPermission, I'm always asked to grant some permission to the installer.
How do I solve this? If I use IzPack to generate an installer to my software, will the users have the same problem?

Thanks in advance.

You probably mean that a terminal pops-up asking you for a password?

If so then it is normal, the installer is trying to run as an admin
(via sudo). This is an optional feature that has been turned on for
the IzPack installer, but for you own ones you can choose not to use
it at all.

Cheers

That's not what I mean.

When I run java -jar IzPack-install-4.2.0.jar, a dialog box is shown
with the message "The applet is attempting to invoke the java/lang/System.getEnv() operation on izpack.mode()". When I click the "Allow" button, another dialog displays the message "The applet is attempting to access the 'listFiles' state attributes of file /etc". After clicking "Allow", the same happens to all other files and dirs bellow /etc.

Cheers.

That's more than weird, as it does not have to run as an applet...

1. Where did you download IzPack (and which URL exactly)?
2. What is the output of "java -version"?

Cheers

http://dist.codehaus.org/izpack/releases/4.2.0/IzPack-install-4.2.0.jar

java version "1.5.0_14"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_14-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_14-b03, mixed mode, sharing)

Or:

java version "1.6.0_10"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode, sharing)

I don't know if it happens, but when I run the installer, the output on console is:

I have *never* seen a thing like that...

That must be a problem with your system and installation of Java,
really. Also, you should not have this console output at all.

Cheers

I found the problem: I'm behind a proxy.

Thanks.
