Iwant to disable the driver for my touchpad. It is called "PS/2 Compatible Mouse". If I go to properties the disable button is grayed out. There is also no option to disable in the context menu if I right click on it in device manager. A attached a screenshot of the issue below. I am using Windows 8 but I'm guessing the issue would be the same in Windows 7.
Click right mouse button to "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" > choose update driver > driver from your computer (not automatically) > choose driver from list > unclick "Show compatible hardware"...and choose another type (I chose mouse from Acer - API USB). Your touchpad will be disabled after restart of your computer. Then (for sure) click on disable driver in your device manager.
Recently I've been having troubles with the touchpad on my laptop. My issue was that the mouse was working, left and right clicks were working, however the multi-finger controls (two-finger swipe, three-finger backwards and forwards, etc.) were not working. I tried looking through help forums, updated my drivers, uninstalled then re-installed the drivers...nothing would fix the issue. So I gave up because everything else was working fine.
However, today I opened up my laptop to clean out the fan (completely unrelated-just wanted to clean out a bit of dust-at least I hope) and I swap out a 2gb ram for 4gb ram (totaling 8gb). I put everything back together just fine, but when I turned my laptop back on, my mouse/touchpad and left and right clicks are not working. I have read related posts in the forums and followed their advice-such as installing the driver software and restarting my laptop, but to no avail.
I have tried drivers sp61880 and sp52352. Neither of these worked; after installing them and restarting my laptop, the drivers did not show up under Devices & Printers>Mouse OR Devices & Printers>Device Manager. I uninstalled them after I realized they were not working.
Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I read the post regarding issues with the touchpad and mouse after upgrading the ram modules on the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.
Hello! I had this exact problem today. I went in to clean out my HP Omen 15 laptop, as well as check out a fan error (I need a new fan =__=). When I put everything back together, my touchpad wasn't working! What happened for me was there was a little switch thing I had bumped. Next to the things that says "Replace with HP" something something in the image:
This is a problem that has existed on my pc for several months now to the point where i had to buy a usb wired mouse as the touchpad has been completely unresponsive. i bought a new computer, but now would like to give this one to my parents, however i need the touchpad to work because it's ridiculous for a computer that is this new to not have its touchpad working.
-The option "Synaptics TouchPad" can be seen in my windows start tab, but when clicking it, it says: "this application is not the correct one for your system. If you were to install this application manually from the windows store, it would not work. etc."
-When i go to device manger and click the tab "mice and other pointing devices", only the usb mouse is visible. ADDITIONALLY, there is an error seen under the Human Interface Devices tab for "I2C HID Device" in which trying to troubleshoot it, tells me to restart the computer, however when i do it does not fix the error and this may not even apply to the touchpad
-When going to the HP driver website (my laptop windows version is 64 bit Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1110) i have tried downloading all of the "Synaptics Precision Touchpad Filter Drivers" just for them to say when i try to install "the driver is not supported on this OS version (10.0.19043).
-Lastly, this PC has had a full reset from the settings tab in which i had ALL data and files wiped clean just a few days ago in order to fix this problem and the touchpad driver is still missing and the touchpad does not register touch whatsoever.
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing a system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

Hello, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately i have already tried a full system restore about a week ago, even without backing up files, and it still did not fix the problem or put the original touchpad driver back into my devices and the touchpad still does not register touch.
I can see how that would be difficult. I would suggest performing a system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.
While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Unfortunately i have to agree. i know for a fact that i did nothing on my end that prompted for my touchpad to be rendered completely useless as my laptop was always used lightly and with caution and care. It's also frustrating that NONE of the touchpad drivers on the HP site available for download are compatible with my PC (WHICH IS FROM HP!) as it would make sense to me that downloading the missing driver would be the simplest solution. The touchpad driver disappearance and issue may have even resulted FROM one of HP's system updates, which is messed up. And as stated before, i already did a full system reset even without retaining personal files and it did not solve the problem, and no one seems to want to help me now that my still new computer is conveniently out of warranty once they bugged my touchpad.
That's correct @Jessie61, I have been trying to fix this issue from last 3 months, and it's really frustrating as well as annoying. Customer care people simply says, it's out of warranty and nothing can be done. Not sure, what's the solution HP has for me?
If you still need additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team if you would like to continue troubleshooting.
Setup my DIY edition, installed Windows 11, touchpad works but only with left-click. Two-finger scrolling and right-click does not work. The touchpad is being recognized as a PS2 mouse so it is not working as touchpad and settings cannot be controlled properly. Is this a Windows 11 issue or are other people running to issues like this?
I went into Device Manager, looked at the Mouse section and uninstalled the PS/2 driver, then it asked to reboot, and it discovered the PS/2 driver by itself, but it also added a HID driver, and now my right-click is working again.
Loading default settings in BIOS can help when the system is unable to function properly due to changed or corrupted settings. When you load default settings, BIOS will be restored to the original settings that were set when the motherboard was manufactured.
If after BIOS restoration and EC reset, the touchpad is functional in the BIOS/UEFI screen but becomes inoperative upon entering the Windows system, please proceed to the next section to update the BIOS and drivers.
Note: If the touchpad still cannot operate in the BIOS/UEFI screen, it might be a hardware issue with the touchpad. We recommend visiting an authorized ASUS service center for further diagnosis.
Please go to the ASUS support site to download and install the following drivers. Here you can learn more about How to search and download drivers. (The following pictures are the current version as a reference, please download the latest version from the ASUS Support Site.)
If the problem happens recently, and if you have ever created a restore point or there is an automatic system restore existed, try to restore the device to a point before the problem began to resolve the problem. Here you can learn more about How to use restore point to restore the system. If the problem persists, please continue the next troubleshooting step.
If the problem persists after all troubleshooting steps are completed. Please backup your personal files, then reset the device to back to its original configuration. Here you can learn more about How to reset the system.
