The water is clearest off-shore around the middle keys. You may see a few things snorkeling from the beaches around Islamorado, Indian Key, the Bahia Honda Bridge and Seven Mile Bridge areas. But be careful of currents (especially near the bridges) and don't expect too much.
So, where is it best to snorkel in the Florida Keys? You must pay for a boat ride to take you off shore. The famous Florida Reef Tract ecosystem and all its most numerous and vibrant fish are not within swimming distance from the beach.
Why would you want to snorkel at night? Because it's awesome! Some of the creepiest, coolest marine critters come out at night. Big stuff like sharks and turtles roam around and there's even some nifty glowy stuff, too!
You may need to get to know the dive staff a bit before you can do this, but it's worth it if you're savvy. I admit, I was taking advantage of the situation a bit. I had just spent the last 3 days with my partner, Jono, SCUBA diving with Rainbow Reef. At the last minute, Jono decided to go on his first night dive ever while I chose to sit the dive out.
I don't think the captain would have allowed me to go if he was not already confident in my abilities and training as a diver. Thus, I would not recommend night snorkeling if you are not at least a confident and experienced snorkeler.
If you sign up to take a ride out on a dive boat like I did, be sure to get a boat that is visiting one of the shallower areas such as Molasses reef or the Benwood wreck. Otherwise, it'll be way too deep for you to see anything.
The ride back inland from my night snorkel was extra special because of thunderstorms off in the distance. Huge flashes of lightning in patches all around us provided a beautiful light show as we made our way back to shore.
Overall, my 2 experiences snorkeling in the Florida Keys were polar opposite of each other. It totally sucked trying to snorkel from the beach, but it's absolutely worth it to get out to the main reefs on a boat.
While my main tip is to skip shore snorkeling in favor of boat snorkeling, I encourage you to deviate a bit. Push things even further if you're skilled enough. Use my tips to go on a night snorkel! The experience I had night snorkeling was one of the highlights of my Florida Keys trip!
So far nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone knows the tuna and wahoo like the low light of daybreak and sunset. But what would happen when the lights went out? Sunset came and went and I decided to mark my lines at the outrigger and flat line lengths so I knew how far to put them out once I could no longer see them. After the glasses came off and squinting no longer worked, there we were, trolling at night.
Then, in about 120 feet of water, both outrigger clips snapped and the spools started singing. Shortly after, the flat line joined in and we had three on. All were nice blackfin tuna! Man, were we excited to learn about the night bite. I kept the engines in gear and headed offshore at an idle to get rigged again.
Everyone forgot about the plug rod, which was all by itself in the back while we were taking photos and extracting hooks. It reminded us of its presence with a high-pitched squeal. And, what do you know, wahoo will bite at night too!
Remember, if you are out on a boat at night for any reason makes sure you are prepared for everything. The ocean is a different place at night. Be careful and always respect the weather and Mother Ocean. I hope to see you out there and good luck.
This, mind you, was many many years before I even thought about having kids, but it made such an impression on me that I knew, many years down the line, I was going to figure out a way to hire one when I became a new mom. (This should give you a good idea of how much sleep is important to my mental health, haha!)
On the flip side, I have other friends who have hired their night nurses when their baby was a few days old! You can absolutely find a night nurse at the last minute if you need to! (At least, in Chicago you can.) If you want to just see how it goes, I think you can definitely do that, there just might be a waiting period, or you may not be able to hire the specific person that you want!
It is still worth it if she only comes for two nights per week, or even ONE night per week. Or have her only come for a month rather than three. Maybe start with more nights and taper off to less nights per week. You can be flexible. Any amount of time is still worth it!

Ticket holders should be checked in or in line by showtime. Once the show has started, your seat may not be held. Any open seats will be made available to standby customers. All late arrivals or unclaimed tickets will be void and non-refundable.
When a graveyard monster is killed, there are a couple of different percentage rolls made, and based on the outcome of those rolls, the Darkest Chocolate or Night Revels Key is distributed. Among the things that make you eligible for receiving an award is being the person who hit the monster first, being the one who killed it, being on the monsters hate list, or being in a party with someone who did one of those things. Additionally, it makes ineligible characters who are massively over the level of the monster. It is possible to get both a Darkest Chocolate and Night Revels Key when killing a mob. The things that make you eligible are not all weighed equally.
Keep in mind that the key rate spikes dramatically if you hunt creatures in a big group. Creatures spawn much more quickly when a group is in the area, and you kill them as a group more quickly. Our group runs had much higher keys per minute than anything solo.
A meal that captures the theme of the night is available for pre-order (orders close 72 hours in advance of the event). A limited number of meals will be available for purchase onsite. Beverages will be available for purchase. No outside food or beverages allowed (with the exception of water bottles).
Key West is a very unique island in the middle of the ocean. It has crystal clear and shallow waters that are every kayaker's dream. At night, without a glare from the sun, with the use of artificial, battery-powered light - you will get an unforgettable experience that will make you feel like you're kayaking in the very large aquarium. Going on the water in the kayak at night, under the stars is an amazing experience on its own - seeing some really cool nocturnal marine life and being educated about it - is a really nice bonus!

Our fantastic server Kyle helped us choose a bottle of wine that we could both agree on by providing a few sample sips of select wines. We selected a Macedonian white Jordanov Rkaciteli, which had a delightful crisp citrus flavor.
After much back-and-forth banter, we decided on the Filet Co. Three-Way for our main course. The dish consisted of a ground beef chili with dark chocolate and delightfully unique spices over an al dente spaghetti with cheddar cheese and sour cream.
