Dear Daryl D'Monte,
Forests, wildlife and ecosystem services are critical resources for the economy of a region and for the livelihoods and well-being of the people that live in the proximity of National Parks and Sanctuaries in India. Valuing these resources is particularly important as it enables policy-makers to make informed decisions about their management and preservation.
India plays an important role in highlighting the need for such national level assessments as it hosts the next Conference of the Parties on Biodiversity (COP-11) in Hyderabad in October 2012. Within this context and as a useful introduction to this issue, Pavan Sukhdev, who was the Study Leader of the international study on The Economics of Ecosystem and Biodiversity (TEEB), which for the first time assessed the economic value of natural resources talks about putting a value on nature in his TED presentation.
Do feel free to circulate the link of his talk (Pavan Sukhdev's TED Talk) to the members of your organisations and on your social media profiles.
We’d love to have your comments on the video.
