Jumping technique

You know, I wonder, rather than to start Jaxon way back at the end of
the dock, maybe it would have been better to start him right up on the
edge of it. My thinking is this...Jaxon runs like crazy the whole
length of the dock, then stops (or at least solidly hesitates) before
jumping in. He seems to love it but needs to see the water for just a
second before making the plunge. If I were to sit him right at the
edge, throw the toy and tell him to go get it a number of times maybe
he would become less hesitant and more confident. Then I could move
him back a step and do it somemore. What does everyone think? That
last little second of hesitation before jumping is the only thing I
would change. Other than that, he is totally into it and amped up
about it. Any thoughts?

I only take Janne back about 15 feet.  Until she gets more experience, the rest of the 40 feet is wasted!
 
I also walk her up and let her take a look off the edge before the first practice jump, so she knows what is down there!
