Training tips for us newbies

Hey Tammy!
Any tips for us just starting out?
Just shy of 20' is a very inpressive jump!
I understand that is considered a big mile marker!

Some of the people here were practicing with a broom handle with a
Binder/paper clip
that held the bumper 5' over the water.

What do you use for Balloo?

you can throw anything that is not edible and that floats and only one thing.... so, bumper, ball, training dummy, wubba's, etc......

just getting them out there is the biggest thing - and REALLY getting them amped up.

 

There are two types of jumps - big air and extreme vertical - big air is how far they can jump, extreme vertical is how high.

 

Big air has two main ways of getting them to jump, the chase and the other I cannot remember the name of (we will call it place).

I use chase. I get him to wait at the far end of the dock, go to the edge and call him and as he approaches I throw the bumper into the pool and he follows the bumper into the pool. There are a lot of things with timing and how far you throw the bumper and how you throw it that are taken into consideration. timing seems to be the biggest issue for me :>)

 

The place method is you take the dog to the edge of the dock next to the pool and hold the collar and throw the toy into the pool and have the dog watch it. you then take the dog back with you to the end of the dock, get them really rev'd up and then let them loose to run and get into the pool.
