The jumbotron is the giant live screen of the action? That is way
cool! Which brings me to a question...how do they accurately get a
jump length? When I was signing up for Splash DOgs, the man running it
said that they (Splash DOgs) had a much more accurate system for
measuring distance. Do you know how they do either?

Both Dockdogs and Splash Dogs use computers designed to measure track and field long jumps. I don't know how one can be more accurate than the other, but they can be inaccurate if they are not calibrated correctly. I've been to several events where they have had to re-calibrate the camera during the event because someone may have bumped the camera. They freeze frame the jump where the dog hits the water, point and click where the base of the tail meets the water and the computer gives the distance of the jump. As in everything computerized, there is always room for human error! Dockdogs cameras are supplied by ESPN, I don't know where Splash Dogs got their cameras.

They had a camera hooked up to a PC this past weekend.  It was very cool - they could slow it down frame by frame to get the exact entry point of dog-butt to water!

I think ESPN or some such donated it to Dock Dogs!
