Hi
I wonder about the length of the IW 40, in most website they are listed as 12,10, but one as 12. The S&S plans are for as boat 39 feet and six inches. Six inches is half a foot, not point six of a foot, as there are 12 inches in the a foot, not ten. If you calculate thirty nine feet and six inches you get 12.0394 meters, which counts as 12m. If you try, make sure the calculator you use actually uses inches (1/12) and not a metric decimal (1/10) (I paste below one that uses inches). If it uses a metric decimal, the boat is thirty nine and a half, or 39.5.
As this boat was designed at a similar time as the Swan 40, which is 11.98, I suspect that that I W 40 is actually meant to be 12 meters. I think the longer 12.10 is a mistake of conversion from imperial feet and inches to meters?
Obviously, from the perspective of marina bills the 12m exactly is advantageous as once you are over the 12m the boat is calculated as 13M.
There is one original IW 40 brochure on the S&S website that appears to list it as just 12m but then elsewhere its 12.10.
Any views?
