[Creep/DM]

PART A: GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Regular sessions on Sunday afternoons. You should be available at least three Sundays a month.

2. Persistent world campaign. The current game world and NPCs are the results of choices and actions taken by generations of players that came before. The future is now in your hands!

3. Heroic fantasy theme. Will you be an honorable hero, helpful hero, cautious hero, shield hero, one-trick hero, sailor hero, oriental hero, reluctant hero, opportunistic hero, accidental hero, undecided hero, or defence heroine?

4. Game sessions are powered by limitless imagination, Roll20,  Discord, electronic dice, and complemented by Google Sites + Google Groups. Video chat and voice chat are required during the sessions.

5. Enforced roleplaying. You are required to roleplay, e.g. speak as your character. If your PC has INT 8, he/she is required to think and act accordingly. NPCs will react according to your race, CHA, attire, and behaviour.

6. All character sheets have to be posted in this forum. Updated character sheets upon leveling up have to be posted by Friday if you want to use them on Sunday.

7. Bookkeeping: At the end of each session, players are required to post an update on inventory changes (e.g. items found/bought, gold spent, potions consumed). Players are encouraged to include any roleplaying notes (e.g. PC's thoughts, feelings, reflections).

8. Inform everyone via Discord in advance if you are not available on Sunday. Register on Discord by Friday to reserve your seat on Sunday.

PART B: CHARACTER CREATION

All players are required to post a new character sheet in a new forum post for S28. Include [S28] and your character's name in the title.
For new players and players creating a new character, follow the rules below. Pre-generated character sheets on the WotC website are also available on request.

1. Player resources: PHB+2. DMG and MM are not player resources. Unearthed Arcana materials are not allowed.
Choose one resource from lists 1A and 1B each. State on your character sheet which 2 resources are chosen.

If you are a new player without any books, you may use:

2. Race:
a) Races that grant flight at first level are not allowed.
b) Variant human traits are allowed.

3. Starting level: 9.

4. Ability scores: 27 point buy.

5. Alignment: Evil alignments are not allowed.

6. Hit points: Maximum at level 1. Use the fixed number (average) for higher levels.

7. Background: choose from PHB+2.
There is no need to write a detailed background story, you may develop it as you play the sessions.

8. Deities: If your character worships a deity, you may use one from any of the tables in PHB Appendix B. Clerics must worship a deity and choose a domain offered by that deity as stated in the respective tables. For domains not in the PHB, use the deity+domain list in the respective book.

9. Languages: Standard languages only (unless granted specifically by your race/background/class or obtained through a feat).

10. Equipment: Take starting equipment as determined by your class and background. You cannot roll for your starting wealth. Purchases have to be made in-game. Encumbrance variant rules are in effect.

11. Trinket: None (unless your background grants one).

12. Faction: Not available (unless your background grants one).

13. Trades/changes/customisations are not allowed during character creation.

For players continuing their characters from Season S27, choose PHB+2 as above and use the following rules to respec your character if you wish, subject to your PHB+2.

14. You cannot change your name, gender, alignment, XP, and inventory.
15. You may change your attribute scores.
16. You may change your race. You are required to post a short story about how or why your race has changed.
17. You may change your background.
18. You may change your languages.
19. You may add or remove classes and change your class levels. However, you must retain at least one level in your highest level class(es).
20. You may change your subclass(es) and choices you made for each level of your class(es).
21. You may change your ASI, feats, and spells.

PART C: RULINGS

1. As a general rule, extra damage is not rolled twice on a critical hit. Treat sneak attack as a specific rule.

2. Players may not give inspiration to a PC (contrary to PHB Chapter 4).

D&D is a cooperative social game. Be respectful to others at all times.

PART E: SPECIAL WORD FROM THE AUTHOR (TO THE DM)

The place ... is a very deadly one indeed. Well, players have been asking for ... and you are about to give them ... spades). Before they ... run, remember this: ... according to the rules of the game, and its spirit, the best of players are going to be in real trouble ...
The point ... is to exhort you to be tough. That’s right, don’t allow any sympathy to interfere with the game as it is designed.

I am proud to say that over the years, I have mostly followed the spirit of the game the way it was designed by the author. So all players and PCs who persevered to the end of each campaign season are truly a cut above the rest.
