Sweethearts... this is how we go about the Diwali celebration with shelter children:

1. We can do it either at BECC or Aashray (opposite Globus, Bandra West)
2. We need to make an invitation card and go n invite the children for the party 2-3 days before the event
3. Party will involve playing games with children, talking about the festival, decoration of the place, food (simple homemade diwali food) n fire crackers (only phuljhari)
4. Individual budget should be maximum Rs.100/-
5. Party would happen either on 21st or the weekend after that (depending upon us... preferably on 21st if u guyz have no problem)

Now what we need is suggestions in terms of decoration, food, games, date n venue. Based on that I shall draw up the responsibility chart.

Please confirm your interest for the party and share your rocking ideas :-)

Cheers!

Hi Supriya,

We can do the event with Aashray Kids. I can make the invitation cards…….

We can light the place with diyas…….Mango leaves and flowers……That would be really give

A festiva feeling and also the children will feel at home……………………………

Food: As usual…..Samosas, khachori…….and some sweet…….

Can you give me any idea of the number of children there? Then I could try preparing somethg at home for them…………….

Games: musical chairs………….A quiz after the festival speech……..we can have 1 min game show type ……………

Thanks and Regards,

Great.. floral decoration will suit the occasion.. instead of paper. Aashray has younger kids so we wont light diyas. There r abt 50 kids... very cute ones n they have a biggg hall with a very good music system too. We will divide the making of invitation cards. I will get you all the names of kids n we can keep a similar format for all cards.

Guyz plz confirm who all can come on 21st so that I can block the venue n date with Misha AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Thanks Vasudha..

Hi,

i am ok with any place but 21st will not be possible for me....

In ashray , there are 40-45 kids and believe me making them play musical charis/arms is the toughest thing to do. last diwali i had celebrated with those  kids and one of the games that we played was musical arms....and  it turned outto be  hilarious, 5 hands clinging onto one arm or the guy standing as arm would convientenly change his direction of arm to suit his friends requirement.... they are a naughty bunch.

Another suggestion is to buy crackers : some box of sprakles which kids can lite  and 1-2packet of flower pot which the volunteers can lite and the kids can see.

Also, shaikmak dawar's teachers come to ashray and teach them dance. maybe we can ask them to put up small dances for us in different groups  and  then the best group will win prize.. somthing like that.

Regards
Shoma

Once again we are going to enjoy the festival of Diwali with full festive spirit. The markets are getting flooded with different type of Diyas, decorative items, eatables and idols of Gods. If you are planning to send Diwali gifts by using Internet services then you can trust Indian Gift Guru which has years of experience in the field of gifting. This is how you can reach your friends who are not close to you physically.
