#1 - Even though Iris Xe 80EU and 96EU are below system requirements, there are benchmarks and reports showing it is playable on low settings (some found on the aforementioned threads). Thus, there is probably a lot more customers disapointed with the situation that are just not voicing their concerns, and probably looking at the competition's integrated graphics that is not suffering from this problem.

#4 - Regardless of being an older architecture, it is still under support and there is no excuse to have flawed drivers. This could well be an easy fix, but the people responsible for bringing it higher up to Intel's driver developers just refuse to do it.

I can back this up with my experiences. My laptop matches the game requirements in every except the graphics card. My game runs at a decent framerate on medium to high graphics settings, and I have had no issues with grashing or lag, but I still deal with the fog/lighting problem.

My problem doesn't seem to be that the graphics card can't run the game, but that there's a bug causing it to create more fog in the environment tan there should me, which makes it very difficult to see. The pictures in the examples given above are exactly what I am experiencing too.

Please provide the following details so I can gather more information and provide you with a troubleshooting step. Just a heads up: once the troubleshooting steps that I have provided do not work, we will raise our case with our engineers for further assistance.

I made the video in the tutorial mission because it serves as a good benchmark and is very easy to compare to other footage online, as the map and lighting is always the same. Compare it to other tutorial gameplays and you see how on Iris Xe there is no lighting over the character and scenario, or as others say, its way too dark and foggy. Also notice how the problem doesn't occours in the ship (at the very beginning), only during missions.

Exactly. I've been in contact with an intel support technician for the last month and a half, and it took a month of back-and-forth troubleshooting for them to start "replicating the issue" and for the last two weeks, its just been delay after delay, while telling me to update my graphics driver even though the patch notes clearly don't target the issue, nor is it even mentioned in the "known issues" section.

According to our senior engineers, they have tried testing this game, but after a few moments of rather low performance, they checked the game requirements. -us/games/helldivers-2/pc/?country-selector=true.

Getting hardware acceleration on Linux for Intel graphics has taken a little fiddling as the defaults are geared towards maximum stability as opposed to performance, even on newer hardware where support has improved in the kernel and related packages.

For the time being, both Chrome/Chromium and FIrefox have issues with hardware acceleration in the most recent versions of their browsers (Chrome/Chromium 100 and Firefox 98) with Wayland. Hopefully future versions will support VA-API again soon.

One thing that still bugs me is that the VideoEnhance engine in intel_gpu_top still shows no activity even when playing an accelerated video. Not clear why that is but if anyone else has got that working, let me know and I can add those steps.

What a great post. Thank you for creating this. Very nice details. I wish Fedora devs had created a post on these issues in their FedoraMagaine blog (something like 5 things to do after installing Fedora 35 for better graphics in Intel-based laptop).

Similar doubts about this package igt-gpu-tools (aka, intel-gpu-tools)? Why do we need this tool!?
Please, do let me know. I want to improve Fedora 35 experience if is any places to improve upon.

Your vainfo output and activity on the video bar indicates that hardware video decoding works fine. Those warnings look like debug messages and it will be fine unless you have problems during video playback.

I upgraded to Fedora 36 beta yesterday which comes with a number of upgrades to the underlying hardware acceleration stack. intel-media-driver, gstreamer, oneVPL, and more all show updated packages in F36.

MPV and VLC still only use the Video engine so there are updates that need to still be made to FFMPEG and VLC (and browsers in general) but it looks like gstreamer is the most mature option for gen12+ graphics so far.

The first line that tells you it is tainting kernel is related to secure boot and an out-of-tree module.
The second line says that option is incompatible. What is it supposed to do? Have you checked the available and functional modes that do work? Do you need that option? Most have no issues with the intel IGP and drivers.

Hey there.
So a year back, I tried fortnite on intel iris xe. So practically speaking, the game has 3 runways,
Performance mode
Dx11
Dx12

DX11 was extremely stuttery. Performance mode on the other hand could give 120 fps straight while dx12 could give 70 fps and worked decent. Pretty happy with it.

2 months later, stuff went bad.
Performance mode was massacred. It wouldn't render properly, and there were stutters EVERYWHERE. Point your camera at the ground, and no problem, with fps going to whopping 200s. Point somewhere above or just play the game normally, fps starts going like: 200 45 32 42 12 11 10 35, and so on. Made a post about this and they told it'd get fixed (didn't get fixed after a year although gotta admit, there's definitely an improvement. However still unplayable). Played dx12 meanwhile and started loving it a lot more than performance mode.

Then some months back, epic games, the creator of Fortnite pushed the game from unreal engine 5 to unreal engine 5.1. And this is where it goes out of hand.
UE 5 can run dx12 ONLY on graphics cards with an above shader model 6 and unfortunately iris xe has shader model 5.1. This kind of meant that the game itself would not allow players to run the pc on dx12, limiting us to dx11 and performance mode. As I said before, dx11 is unplayable and performance mode, well, improved but unplayable.
@Xillvion posted about this and finally told it'd get fixed.

Still not fixed.
It'd be cool if you could do something about this since if all future games started using ue5.1>= intel iris xe is going to have to go downhill. The game is entirely unplayable. Just try it.

This issue is currently being investigated based on the feedback and troubleshooting captured on your previous thread with the title Insane stuttering in fortnite performance mode. Given the recent update that you mentioned in which Fortnite was upgraded to only use Unreal Engine 5, I will check internally and see if there is an update regarding this issue. I will post back once I have more information for you.

Thanks a lot, will be looking forward to your response. BTW fortnite has been upgraded to only use unreal engine 5.1 which means that dx12 cannot be run since ue 5.1 goes with only graphics cards with shader model 6 and above.

Thank you for your patience. In regards to this issue, our driver developer team is still investigating the problem, at the moment we cannot provide a specific time for a fix to come out, however, once released it will be noted in the driver release notes.

Since there are no further questions, we will close this thread. In case you want to get an update on the issue you can reference the Bug ID number provide in my previous. Feel free to open a new thread in case you need further assistance.

Hi, i have a HP 250 g8 laptop with Intel Iris Xe Graphics and 11th gen Intel i7, Windows 11 Pro 22h2. The HP Support Assistant installed me graphics driver version 30.0.101.2079 but im getting blurry text and screen flickering in the intel graphich control center application. I also tried to download driver with intel driver and support assistant which updated my drivers to 31.0.101.3802 version but im still getting blurry text. Any thoughts what this might be ? Thanks for the help.

Since you are mentioning compatibility with your computer, we will need to look into this further through our support page. Once there, please provide the logs for your computer so we can better assist you. If you follow this link, it will instruct you on how to do so.

We're always trying to improve our software and implement any changes that increase the quality of the products. Since this is an engineering question, I'm not able to give an accurate answer on implementing this specifically but we're always trying to improve as best as we can!

Is Meta actively engaged in making the Quest 2 compatible with less than extremely expensive graphic cards?

I have bought a laptop with 11th Gen i7 processor 2.8Ghz with 8 cores and 16GB memory and iRISx 8GB graphics card....and that much power added to the Quest 2 resources is not enough to play a game? Very frustrating.

The Iris Xe is only around one third of the performance of a Nvidia GTX970, which was the 2016 minimum for Oculus VR games. The Quest 2 is a lot higher resolution than the headsets from back then and Link requires extra GPU for the video encoding.

This really sucks, my AMD Vega iGPU laptop broke and I moved over to an intel iris xe one that is a good bit more powerful and supports more codecs but it doesn't work for game streaming. It would absolutely be enough if you turn down resolution on most games.
