A long term project as you know. The paper on Mendacibombus should be in proofs soon. I hope that there will be a lot more in the next couple of years.

Hope all is wonderful.
Cheers, Paul

Things are wonderful with Jim since last Jan, but I have to remember that
with this disease, I take it a day at a time. It's been nearly 10 months
since Jim's ongoing recovery with no alcohol and I'm optimistic even if
sometimes the fears return-- the brain works in complex ways! My mother
lost her husband last Mar and has moved to Urbana to be nearer us. It's
been a hard move for her so we're also taking that a day at a time.

I have had little time the last couple of years to focus on my work and am
getting closer to retirement. I have not taken any new students in 3 years
to prepare for retirement, although I have submitted one more grant
proposal to work on Nosema effects on bumbles at the gene level. If that
is funded, which is a long shot these days in the US, then I may take on a
masters student or two, or just settle on a postdoc. We'll see. I do know
that I feel ready for retirement in order to have some time to think and
muse about what I would like to do next.

I have been asked to apply for a Headship in Entomology at the U of
Minnesota, and while I am very fond of Minnesota-- a lovely state in terms
of natural beauty-- it is simply not in my best interests (or theirs) at
this stage in my life. Jim and I will be taking a short sabbatical in
France in late spring and hope to pop over to visit Sally. We may pop by
the NHM, too, to see you.

Keep up the wonderful work in China!
Cheers,
Sydney
