IGBO COMMUNITY BUILDING WORK IN PROGRESS
1. Do you know Igbo Union Atlanta has two buildings one on 612, and 622 Old Powder Springs Road, Mableton, GA purchased of parking lots and are about to be demolished?
2. According to Cobb County requirements for demolition, the buildings must be asbestos free. An asbestos test was done and the results showed that they have asbestos. It costs IUA $800.00 for the testing (paid).
2. To remove asbestos in the two buildings it will cost Igbo Union Atlanta $1,050.00 each ($2,100.00), paid and work in progress. A certificate of non-asbestos (asbestos free) on the two buildings must be tendered to Cobb County Government before the demolition will commence.
3. Asbestos on the two buildings have been removed and certificate of completion notification for removal or encapsulation of asbestos have been issued to Igbo Union Atlanta.
Thus far, item number 1, 2, and 3 have being done, BUT:
To demolish the buildings, it will cost $16,000.00 (for the two buildings). Both the Building Project and Ways & Means Committees came up with a dynamic and go- ahead idea, for all the members of both committees to loan the sum of $500.00 minimum each towards the demolition of the two buildings, and this loan will be payable next year after IGBO DAY (tentatively May,2020).
Both committees are appealing to NdiIgbo nile to participate in raising the $16,000.00 loan so we can demolition the two buildings by the end of December, 2019 as required by Cobb County Authority.
The destiny of Igbo Community Building is on all of us. The loan for this project will be paid at Igbo Union Atlanta USA scheduled general meeting on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Our meeting starts at 7:00 pm.
