IGBO UNION COMMUNITY CENTER BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE

The two buildings on 612 and 622 Old Powder Springs Old, Mableton, Georgia that was purchased for parking and was mandated by Cobb County Code of Enforcement demanded for the buildings to be demolished as part of the rezoning approval.

For demolition to take place, the county required that the two builds must be asbestos free.  As a result of Cobb County requirements, asbestos test was done on the two buildings and unfortunately it was discovered that two buildings have asbestos.  It costs Igbo Union Atlanta USA, INC., eight hundred dollars ($800.0) for the testing and it was paid in full in order to commence with the next stage.

To remove the asbestos in the two buildings, the cost for the quotation approved was one thousand fifty dollars on each building totaling two thousand one hundred dollars ($2,100.00) and this was paid in 2019 in order to a receive a certificate on non-asbestos free on the two buildings.

·         The Asbestos free Certificate on the two buildings were received and tendered to Cobb County Government before the demolition will take effect.

To demolish the two buildings, the cost for the approved quotation was sixteen thousand three hundred dollars ($16, 300.00).  The Project and Ways and Means Committees of IUA came up with a dynamic and go-ahead idea, for all the members of both committees, and willing and enthusiastic Igbo sons and daughters to loan the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) minimum each towards the demolition of the two buildings by the end of December 2019 as required by Cobb County Authority.

 ·         The destiny of Igbo Community Cultural Center, Atlanta is on all of us.  The loan for the demolition project will be paid back to the loaners at the conclusion of IGBO DAY 2020.  Thanks to all of you that answered this clarion call.

Today, I am proud and happy to share with you that two buildings on 612 and 622 Old Powder Springs Old, Mableton, Georgia, have been demolished at the approved demolishing cost which was $16, 300.00. Again, I thank each one of you that loaned/donated to make this possible. God bless each one of us for reestablishing, “IGBO PRIDE”. IT IS A MOVEMENT!!!
