You don't have to turn your entire class into a multi-player online
game to leverage the possibilities for games in education. There are a
host of games out there, many of them available for free on the web,
that address some topics that might surprise you - dealing with solid
waste, surviving as a third world farmer, running the McDonalds
corporation, and even an alternate reality game to save the world. You
could use a game as the basis for a paper or project, to prompt
discussion, or as part of a collaborative research project, or you
might teach using a simulation as the basis for part of your course.
Join Professor Keith Dayton of the Kelley School of Business, who uses
business simulations in his courses, and Maggie Ricci of the TLTC for
a discussion of the resources available and ways to use them
effectively for teaching and learning. Explore some of the web-based,
serious games available for free.
