For folks at IUB, Dr. Bob will be running a workshop on designing a
virtual learning environment. I'm not sure if this is something we
can broadcast or record because it sounds more like a roll up your
sleeves and work event rather than a listen to someone talk event.
Details below:

Dr. Bob Appelman will introduce you to the world of 3D Virtual
Learning Environments with the goal of your considering it as a
pedagogical alternative for your own subject matter. The development
pipeline will be described based on resources available here at IUB,
and that could be made available to you. This is a multidisciplinary
process, so linkages between critical disciplines is necessary,
especially if you wish to have students help in the creation of your
virtual learning environment. You, however, know the learning
objectives better than anyone, so Dr. Bob will focus on how the design
process works beginning with learning objectives. Bring your concrete
ideas, so Dr Bob can walk you through the process in a meaningful
way.

Date: April 15, 2010

The TLTC schedule shows no session for April 15th--only March 30.

Shall I sign up for that date if I want to attend on the 15?

Elan Lee is responsible for some of the biggest and best known alternate reality games (ARGs), including The Beast, i love bees, and Year Zero for Nine Inch Nails.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elan_Lee

Alternate reality game design has a lot in common with virtual worlds. The big difference is that the real world substitutes for the virtual rather than the other way around. I guarantee a fascinating look into this cutting-edge genre of gaming that I've been working in as well.

Here are the details:

Monday, April 5
11:00AM - 12:45PM
Briscoe BQ C147A

I hope you can join us!

Burcu,

Just show up at that classroom in Briscoe. J I know him, also wrote a chapter for an upcoming book on i love bees. I invited him here to meet with my ARG class. And he graciously agreed to hang around, give a talk and meet with other interested parties. If you actually want to meet with him one-on-one, contact Phoebe Elefante phel...@umail.iu.edu.  I expect there is still some time available.

Lee, i already know Elan, he was one of the participants in the panel the I moderated last year in ARGFest and I may be meeting him in SF next month, but looks like I am teaching at the time. Any idea what time (or even if there are) any casual get togethers afterwards? I may try to appear in something like that.

It now appears lunch is at Lennie's on Monday. That significantly lowers the number of people who can comfortably attend. If you'd like to do so, please warn Phoebe: phel...@umail.iu.edu.

Looks like lunch today will be back at Nick’s after all. Sorry for the flip-flopping.
