Mymac is not showing me at all that the printer is connected to the system. However, the printer is working perfectly fine with the windows machine with the same old settings. Its just the update that caused the problem. My USB ports are also working fine.
HP doesn't provide 1020 driver for the mac, however Apple does in a package "HP Printer Drivers v3.1 for OS X". There is another package "HP Printer Driver 1.1.1" that contains specifically 1020's driver but it doesn't install on my mac. Anyways v3.1 worked perfectly fine.
I did it just deletes all the information about printer ?. Anyways, I've asked my university to buy a new one that is supported by mac. I hope get that in time. Thanks a lot for helping everyone. I learned a lot of things. ?
I read his detailed post and followed a link back to an Apple page to a host of HP drivers. HP Printer Drivers v3.1 for OS X
its a large download of 500+MB - it worked a charm.
All I had to do then was go to my library folder and under HP, delete all the HP printers and stuff I don't need, which is almost everything.
Hope this helps. It feels good not having to buy new stuff all the time if the old equipment works just fine. Id rather buy tech that sticks around longer and works out better for the environment in the long run.
Despite downloading the latest printer driver from the HP website and running Microsoft Fix it as well as the Troubleshooting tool accessible through Devices & Printers I have been unable to get the printer to work. However, at one stage, while using HP Print and Scan Doctor to find the problem I was able to succssfully print a test page.
When I try to print a document, such as a Word file I go to File, Print. When I click the Print button/icon I get a message stating Unable to connect as well as Print preview is not available because Microsoft Word could not connect to the selected printer.
got an HP computer Win7 and starter microsoft office (excel, word), HP laserjet 1018 and just a few days ago stopped printing in word, excel and adobe reader. It doesn't even try to find the printer. Uninstalled and re-installed adobe reader. Now when I try to print it crashes Adobe. It prints fine everywhere else with the purchased MS Outlook and paint and notepad etc. Not sure if that means I need to buy the full MS office and adobe software. Did run a scan with bitdefender a couple days ago and ran MS updates. Totallly at a loss here.
It seems like you have a lot of problems printing from your computer. So you cannot print in Word, Excel or Adobe and after uninstalling/reinstalling Adobe it crashes when you print. I want to focus on Microsoft Starter first and then work out Adobe later but I must ask you a few questions:
Here is a document on how to repair, uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Office Starter. Follow the steps here (repairing the program first followed by a test print and then doing the uninstall/reinstall if that fails) and then try to print and let me know the outcome. If it fails again, please answer the two questions above and I will be happy to help you.
2. The printer is connected through USB. As soon as I select print with the HP Laserjet in Word, it says unable to connect. It makes no attempt to connect. It's fine printing to a generic text only file. As I said before, it prints fine with MS Outlook, Notepad, Paint etc. Just not home office or adobe acrobat reader.
I've downloaded the latest printer driver and made no difference. Not sure if something got corrupted in the registry somewhere. Any help is much appreciated since I am completely stumped and bumped...
I completely understand. I agree that at this time it is hard to say if bitdefender, MS Updates, or MS Office caused this but that is interesting that I have heard this before (very recently). Have you done a recent back up or restore point that you can revert back to prior to May? In regards to what is able to communicate to the printer and what is not, it sounds like something happened to the in-OS drivers since I cannot find the Full Feature Drivers for your printer anywhere.
Since you have an HP computer, I will provide an alternative solution for fixing registry files. If you cannot revert back to a good date just before the updates (the MS updates I have yet to run date back to May 14th), do a back up now before running this tool I am about to give you. Although this is a very good program, when cleaning out registry files it is good to do a system back up before conducting a cleaning to this degree.
Here is a link to Advanced System Care This is a great registry cleaning tool but since it is a 3rd party software, use at your discretion, read the information in the link I have provided and use it to uninstall the printer and clean the registry. Next, re-install the Plug-and-Play Drivers for the LaserJet 1018 for Windows 7 64-bit (US Version) unless you have the software disc for it. This is all I could find for drivers regarding your printer on the website. Remember, this step is to be done if you cannot revert back to a restore point prior to the updates. Let me know what happens. I really hope this works!
The only thing that worked for me was System Restore. I only had to go back a week to the last Windows update because I remembered exactly when the "unable to connect" problem first occurred--less than a week before. So you have to know when the error first happened and then restore the System to a slightly earlier date.
I used to be able to use my Lasjet 1020 with my Mac until I recently uninstalled it by accident. I have since tried to re-install using the approach suggested here - -Printing/Drivers-for-HP-LaserJet-1020-OX-Mavericks/m-p/3669404... - but it is not working.
While I seem to be able to add the printer using the HP Laserjet 1022 1.6.1 driver, when I try to print through Word, a red exclamation mark comes up and the error I am getting is 'Check the printer for errors'. The error on Printers and Scanners simply says: Error.
I'd be really grateful if someone was able to identify the solution. I just don't see why the 1020 driver was discontinued - it was such a popular printer and even if you can get to use the 1022 driver, the Mac driver doesn't allow two page printing.
I finally discovered the problem last night when I realised it might not have been a software issue. Although it didn't look like it, it turns out there was one piece of paper in the middle of the stack that had been sucked up and was a bit crumpled. Turns out it was a paper jam. Moral of the tale - always check for paper jams!
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I read your post and see that the Laserjet 1022 drivers aren't working this time for the Laserjet 1020 model. I would like to help you out today. If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say thanks for my effort to help, click the " Thumbs Up " to give me a Kudos.
Unfortunately, after managing to follow your instructions, I am still getting the error where the printer icon jumps up and down in the dock with an exclamation mark on it and it says Error under its status in Printers and Scanners.
It seems that another Mac which also used to work now is getting the same problem and there is a flashing light on the printer. Could this be a hardware issue? I have never had a problem with the printer until now.
I can't follow your instruction because I don't understand if you have to first choose and upload different driver eg. laserjet 1022 either prior to or within your process / actions or if the your process finds the correct driver
There are no Mac drivers for the Laserjet 1020 model from HP's Website. But other users used the Laserjet 1022 drivers. No Guarantees, that it will work for everyone. You can download and install the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
I recently upgraded from Yosemite to Sierra, which fixed some issues but rendered my HP LaserJet 1020 as nothing more than a large paperweight. After trying multiple fixes that I found out on the internet, I discovered this post. I downloaded the driver Gemini02 suggested above for the HP LaserJet 1022 (file name is hpprinterdriver3.1.dmg) and installed it. Here again is the link: Printer Specifications for HP LaserJet 1020 Printer Series.
In System Preferences/Printers & Scanners, I right-clicked on my 1020 printer and selected, "Reset Printing System". Then I clicked the plus symbol (+) at the bottom of the left column and clicked on my HP LaserJet 1020 printer. This fills the first two fields out. On the third field, "Use: Choose a Driver", I clicked it and selected, "Select Software". I then found my new 1022 driver in the list, clicked, "OK" and it worked like a charm. I didn't even have to restart.
I have a hp laserjet 1020 that I am vpn and remote desktop to a computer at work. I am suupose to be able to print from remote desktop to my local printer (the hp laserjet 1020) using the microsoft terminal Easy Print. The printer is showing up in the printer list, but when I try to print I get an error of Printer not ready. The printer is working fine on the local machine, just not through the remote desktop. I have install the printer drivers on the machine that I am remoting into , just to make sure. Is there anything else I can try. I am not finding any firewalls on either end blocking it?
Thanks for the post. I'm not sure of your full configuration, but I did find this great older article from MS support that I've pasted below. Hopefully, this will help with your VPN/Printer issue.......Good Luck!
After many months of frustration and 7 1/2 hours with Microsoft advanced prof support I've finally pinned down this printer and a slew of others. This problem as far as I have come across deals exclusively with HP printers. In simple terms: the drivers are flawed. This 1022 is a prime example. It prints locally and via TCP/IP just fine. I have about 7 other printers and dummy printers in my printer folder. Enter a remote desktop session and ALL of them populate except the 1022. This shows that the hooks and RDT finders are locating your printers and installing them properly as remote printers. All except the 1022.
