His Eye is On The Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

1. God of the sparrow
God of the whale
God of the swirling stars
How does the creature say Awe
How does the creature say Praise

2. God of the earthquake
God of the storm
God of the trumpet blast
How does the creature cry Woe
How does the creature cry Save

3. God of the rainbow
God of the cross
God of the empty grave
How does the creature say Grace
How does the creature say Thanks

4. God of the hungry
God of the sick
God of the prodigal
How does the creature say Care
How does the creature say Life

5. God of the neighbour
God of the foe
God of the pruning hook
How does the creature say Love
How does the creature say Peace

6. God of the ages
God near at hand
God of the loving heart
How do your children say Joy
How do your children say Home

Together since 2011, Jahnke and Baxter met at the University of Texas. Baxter writes most of the lyrics, Jahnke many of the melodies. Together, they've got a Simon & Garfunkel-meets-Bon Iver musical vibe. Throughout the duo's songs, they match both somber and shadowy musical qualities with ambitious instrumental and vocal cadence. Finch was co-produced by Penny & Sparrow and Chris Jacobie, and recorded mostly at Curlwood Studio in San Antonio, Texas. Along with Jacobie on guitars and various instruments, Jahnke and Baxter handle most of the instrumentation and vocals.

Slaves of wealth, slaves of malignance

Delicate are the winds of change
I feel howling gusts upon this torture and pain
Did everything become a placeholder of the true terror?
Slaves of wealth and ignorance

Defiance
The crucifixion
Cutting my throat, I adorn this affliction
Heavy hands tear me apart and force me to bow
We are the ethos of evisceration, begging for annihilation
Begging to die alone in the haze
The sun sets before the dawn
Slaves of wealth and ignorance

An eruption of chaos
Barren wastelands fester in silence
Slicing through the veil of innocence
Rescind my soul into the abyss of nothingness
Vicious cycles, comfort of thorns and lust
Breaking down every bone
Commanding the knife I once held
Sickening waves come in forms of ignorance and pain
Our shepherds of vile cruelty

Sinking in a sea of lies
Painting suffering, sounds of echoing cries
Clustered morals clash in unison
All we have to feel is the breath of the end
Sinking in a sea of lies
Painting suffering, sounds of echoing cries
With the death of a sparrow, I cry
Our souls are contained and have been left here to die

Without a trace of human nature left inside the web weaved by the chosen watchers
Expect death to crawl and chew upon every soul that dared to seek answers, ask why he's lost control
Feast upon they eyes of the world
As I approach the throne of undead flesh
Instructed to burn I am a slave to you my lord of death
Helpless forever
An underworld over flowing with souls of undeveloped corrupted forms

If I cannot bend the will of heaven, then I shall move hell

Sinking in a sea of lies
Painting suffering, sounds of echoing cries
Clustered morals clash in unison
All we have to feel is the breath of the end
Sinking in a sea of lies
Painting suffering, sounds of echoing cries
With the death of a sparrow, I cry
Our souls are contained and have been left here to die

Civilla Durfee Martin wrote many popular hymns that are still familiar today, including "God Will Take Care of You" and "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power". Her husband Walter Stillman Martin was a minister, but also wrote many of the hymn tunes for her lyrics, although the tune to this particular hymn was written by Charles Gabriel (who wrote the music to an enormous number of hymns still sung today including "Send the Light", "Higher Ground", "He Lifted Me", "I Stand Amazed in the Presence", "The Way of the Cross Leads Home", "Will the Circle Be Unbroken", "Crown Him with Many Crowns", "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart", and many, many more.

Civilla Martin recounted the story of how the lyrics of this hymn came to her. She and her husband were dear friends with a couple in Elmira, New York, named Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle, whom she described as "true saints of God". Mr. Doolittle was disabled and had to use a wheelchair to move. Mrs. Doolittle had an illness that kept her bedridden for twenty years. And yet every time the Martins would visit the Doolittles, they were struck at how bright, optimistic, and at peace they were. During one visit, they asked Mrs. Doolittle if she ever got discouraged. She responded about God's care for the sparrow. The words struck Civilla deeply, and shortly after she wrote the poem we know today as "His Eye Is on the Sparrow".

The filmmakers initially wanted a Dolly Parton song to play as background music in the two diner scenes. However, due to licensing costs, the film's composer Harry Manfredini created his own song, using the Parton lyrics as inspiration, with vocals by Angela Rotella.

Sail away tiny sparrow
Spread your wings and fly to the sun
Catch the wind, don't let your heart belong to anyone
Sail away
Sail away from all the sadness and the sorrow
Sail away

All your friends would say that love was made in Heaven
Well, the last three years have been a living hell
And all your tears are dry and you have tried to find a way
But there ain't no way as far as you can tell

Go on and sail away tiny sparrow
Spread your wings and fly to the sun
Catch the wind, don't let your heart belong to anyone
Sail away
Sail away from all the sadness and the sorrow
Sail away

So the way to lose yourself is to fly for freedom
Find the feelings that you're always dreaming of
Try with all your might to see the light within your heart
You know that you're the one you've got to learn to love

Go on and sail away, tiny sparrow
Spread your wings and fly to the sun
Catch the wind, don't let your heart belong to anyone
Sail away
Sail away from all the sadness and the sorrow
Sail away

Go on and sail away, tiny sparrow
Spread your wings and fly to the sun
Catch the wind, don't let your heart...
