Windows Live Mail Configuration in Windows 7

o configure Windows Mail for your Gmail address:
  1. Enable POP in your email account. Don't forget to click Save Changes when you're done.
  2. Open Windows Mail.
  3. Click the Tools menu, and select Accounts...
  4. Click Add...
  5. Select Email Account, and click Next.
  6. Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the 'From:' field of outgoing messages, and click Next.
  7. Enter your full Gmail address (user...@gmail.com). Google Apps users, enter your full address in the format 'username@your_domain.com.'
  8. Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
  9. Incoming mail server2 type: POP3

    Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: pop.gmail.com. Google Apps users, enter the server name provided, don't add your domain3 name in these steps.

    Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name: smtp.gmail.com

    Outgoing server requires authentication: enabled

    Set up email servers
  10. Click Next, and enter your full Gmail address (including '@gmail.com') and your Gmail password. Google Apps users, enter your full address in the format 'username@your_domain.com.'
  11. Internet Mail Logon
  12. Click Next, and then check the box next to Do not download my e-mail at this time. Click Finish.
  13. On the Internet Accounts screen, make sure that your pop.gmail.com mail account is selected, and click the Properties button.
  14. On the Advanced tab, enter 465 in the in the box next to Outgoing mail (SMTP), and check the box next to This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
  15. Check the box next to This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Incoming mail (POP3). The box next to Incoming mail (POP3) should automatically update to 995.
  16. Set up email servers
  17. Click OK. You're done! Close the Internet Accounts window and click Send/Receive to start checking your Gmail messages.

  1. POP: POP (Post office protocol) is a one-way download of your messages that allows you to access your mail with a mail program like Outlook Express or Apple Mail. POP only offers one-way communication, which means that actions you take in the mail program (like marking a message as read) won’t be synced to Gmail.
  2. mail server: A mail server is a machine that sends and receives emails. Think of a mail server as a mailman who makes sure messages go to the right place.
  3. domain: A domain is a name for an IP address and is more commonly recognized as a website or web address. For example, Google.com is a domain.
