Guest Updates

Zoë Petty, Office of Neighborhood Services Hyde Park liaison

zoe....@boston.gov

  • Zoë introduced herself as the new Hyde Park liaison for the Office of Neighborhood Services. She grew up in Roxbury and has lived in Hyde Park for 4 years.
  • She has learned that development and street safety are important concerns for Hyde Park residents.
  • The Boston Transportation Department recently made changes to the traffic pattern at the triangle where Webster Street and Central Avenue intersect. Changes include new striping and signage. Changes were also made around the intersection of Williams Avenue and Prospect Street on Fairmount Hill.
  • The city is also focused on street safety around Boston schools.

Neighborhood Roadwork

  • The roadway around the West Street bridge has been repaved.
  • Over the last several weeks Myopia Road, Chestnut Street, Greenbrook Road, and Child Street next to the Trinity School have been undergoing utility work. A request was made for repaving of these streets, as well as Braeburn Road where utility work was completed a couple of years ago, once this work has been completed.

River Street Bridge

  • The bridge is slated to close again sometime in 2026 so that the new bridge can be installed.
  • GPN would like to ensure that all necessary preparations are in place before the closure as this area of Hyde Park will bear the brunt of traffic detours.
  • Zoë will get a projected timeline for the project, including anticipated dates for Mass DOT's 50% and 75% design meetings.

Squares+Streets

  • Zoë reported that S+S is still moving forward. She will confirm whether a S+S amendment meeting will take place on October 20 and its time/place.
  • Zoë also reported that the Planning Department has scheduled a community meeting on "all things zoning" in Hyde Park on October 22 at 6pm at the Muni. She will share the flyer when available.
  • A request was made for an update on the status of the Junior's Automotive project.

Climate Action Plan Meeting Update

Pat Alvarez provided a brief recap of the Boston Environment Department's September 29 community meeting on Boston's 2030 Climate Action Plan. She made the following comments:

  • The city needs to provide a distilled version of the plan so that residents can more easily digest its content. The full draft is posted here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cgs7ByFPVwCNfHzj9Uod5322wEaBNriy/view
  • The plan should emphasize nature-based solutions. For example, new development projects should be required to include tree canopy on the parcel itself to sequester carbon.
  • The plan should clarify how the plan fits into development under the Squares+Streets initiative.
  • The plan should clarify how city departments will work together to accomplish its goals and to minimize siloing across departments.
  • Zoë will follow up on these recommendations.

Next meeting is scheduled for November 3 at 6:30pm on Zoom.
