Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll held a press conference at the State House to address the federal lapse in SNAP funding effective November 1st. The Governor announced that the United Way Response Fund has already surpassed $1 million in donations and that the state will advance $4 million in Massachusetts Emergency Food Assistance Program (MEFAP) funding to help food banks and pantries respond to this crisis.
A new SNAP Response Hub webpage is now live, featuring a municipal-level map showing the impact of SNAP across Massachusetts, information on where residents can access food assistance, and ways community members and businesses can contribute.
For those able to support, there are several ways to get involved. The United Way Response Fund is accepting monetary contributions at https://unitedwaymassbay.org/united-response. Farmers, grocery stores, restaurants, and wholesalers can connect with food recovery organizations like Spoonfuls to donate surplus inventory. Community members can also contact their local organizations to organize food drives.
Residents in need of food assistance can contact Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline at (800) 645-8333, visit their regional food bank to find local pantries, or check the DTA website for the latest and most accurate information on available resources.
