Local to Austin first but Texas also works
Must be 15+ years of experience

HHSC has issued a request for a Senior Java Developer to support the SCOR BAU EI parallel initiative at HHSC. This role focuses on updating SCOR Java applications by changing business logic, extending the data model, supporting reporting enhancements, fixing defects, and maintaining application stability across multiple environments. The ideal candidate will have deep Java and Spring experience, strong SQL skills, solid unit testing habits, and the ability to work through enhancement, maintenance, and troubleshooting work in a hybrid production support environment.

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Enhance and maintain SCOR Java applications by updating business logic, data model components, and application functionality.
  • Support coding, testing, peer reviews, defect root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance across multiple environments.
  • Contribute to reporting-related enhancements and maintain code quality, test coverage, and security practices while supporting on-call needs as required. 

 

Minimum Candidate Characteristics:

  • 8+ years of experience in object-oriented programming with Java and application development on the J2EE platform.
  • 8+ years of experience writing SQL for relational databases and building RESTful web services on the Spring platform.
  • 8+ years of experience with Spring AOP concepts such as transaction management and security, plus JUnit and unit test development. 

 

Exceptional Candidate Characteristics:

  • Experience with an HHS agency.
  • 4+ years of experience with Angular UI Framework, Crystal Reports, and Power BI.
