Hi, I'm trying to use reverse scrobble to augment my iTunes play
counts but it's not working. I'm probably doing something wrong...

I have a T-Mobile G1, which has an app called Scrobble Droid that
transmits play counts from the phone to last.fm ( http://code.google.com/p/scrobbledroid/
). I was hoping to use ITSfv to then pull these counts from last.fm
and update iTunes with them, therefore syncing my play stats from my
phone to iTunes.

When I try this, my play counts are not changed. How can I get ITSfv
to work like this? Thanks!

ryan,

Things I can think of: your Last.fm user name accurately filled in
Options > Internet

What do you have in your debug-log.txt?

Hey McoreD, thanks for the reply.

I checked and the last.fm username in Options -> Advanced -> Internet
is correct. I opened the debug log and have several entries like this:

2008-12-01T10:18:25 Job Started: IMPORT_PLAYEDCOUNT_LASTFM
2008-12-01T10:18:43 Duration: 0 Hours 00 Minutes 17.617 Seconds
2008-12-01T10:18:43 Cleaning Temporary Files... in C:\Users
\Ryanosaurus
\AppData\Roaming\iTSfv\
2008-12-01T10:18:44 Job Finished: IMPORT_PLAYEDCOUNT_LASTFM

(Just in case it pops out at you, the name of the directory is not
spelled the same as the last.fm username. This is stupid Vista that
didn't rename the user directory when I corrected my Windows
username.)

I have the last.fm client installed on my PC and iTunes is scrobbling
the counts over to last.fm, if that matters.

And, just to clarify the operation of ReverseScrobble, it runs and if
it detects a higher playcount in last.fm, it updates it in iTunes? Or
does it just always copy over the play count and overwrite the one in
iTunes? If I run this regularly to sync the play counts from my device
(as mentioned in post #1) it won't skew my data right?

Thanks man!

EvilPuppetMaster,

Many Thanks for helping me debug the exact issue by providing your user name. The issue is fixed now but now we have a bigger problem. It seems that Last.fm have ceased updating Last.fm API v1.0 XML files so for example this XML file of yours: http://ws.audioscrobbler.com/1.0/user/EvilPuppetMaster/weeklytrackchart.xml?from=1206878400&to=1207483200 would not have the up-to-date PlayedCounts.

I have to figure out Last.fm API 2.0. I just haven't got time for it. A friend of mine tburny has a developed a wonderful LastFmLibNet.dll that I am planning to use.

I am very busy with my engineering project these days until June so I can't really do much. This also leaves me as a user in the dark. If somebody could step up and help implementing Last.fm API 2.0 that would be great.

Hi I have the same issue and have the same message in my debug log as
ryannosaurus.

Additionally, I have an error in the warnings log saying something
like:

Error: Cannot convert string "" to integer. while reading last.fm
charts...

My last.fm account is EvilPuppetMaster, it could be to do with the
particular data some users have perhaps?

I saw this same issue mentioned a few times in the sourceforge bug
reports... I responded there but it looks like this site is more up to
date. Anyway I think a fair few people are having this problem.

Thanks.

Wow, thanks for such a quick response!

It's no problem that you are busy, I totally understand. I haven't
really used the program much, I downloaded it specifically to try and
update my play counts! But I can see you have put a lot of time and
effort into the project and responding to the users and that's great.
I certainly appreciate it.

I would help out however my .NET skills are basically non existent!
Hopefully someone else comes across this thread who does have the
skills to help.

I went looking for something else that could do the play count import
and I came across something that may be relevant. There is a guy who
makes a perl script that does the same thing. On the forums on his
site, someone posted a question about an error:

"Could not get text from <playcount> tag"

To which the maker of that script responded:

On february 3rd, lastFM encountered issue on their xml generation
process.
The XML tags were incorrect.
THey are aware of it and are currently working on it.

See:
http://lastfm.igrenier.com/?q=node/12

So perhaps it is a temporary issue only.

Wow, thanks again EvilPuppetMaster. I thought they finally pulled the plug
on API 1.0. But they surely will, eventually. Hope this is temporary so I
can release a patch now.
