First let me put the price part apart, and discuss the so called "New Method of Angioplasty" which had gone viral on WhatsApp.
This is nothing but a new form of already existing thrombosuction devices . We have similar devices, known as Thrombuster at our hospital, for last 10 years. They are nothing but a simple catheter, which sucks out any clot, by applying negative suction at the other end of catheter.
But, you must know, that they are helpful in only sucking out the soft part of clot,
the main plaque, which is due to buildup of cholesterol, inflammatory cells and thickening of inner lining of coronary arteries, can not be removed by these suction devices. These plaques have to be cleared by balloon angioplasty, and then stenting. So do not be fooled by these WhatsApp gimmick, and trust your cardiologist, who would do his best to clear the blockages, utilising various different techniques. Sucking out clot is only one of them.
Now coming to the 5000 Rs price part. So, it is the cost of only the catheter, the whole angioplasty procedure incurs, many other expenses, which could be anywhere between 25000 in a govt hospital to 1.5 lakhs in a corporate hospital.
